How do soldiers get treated that transfer to the Marines? Do they get treated as prior-service at boot camp? How does all that work?

UNTIL - the word got out that you had been a Soldier. Then, your name and title eould probably be: DOGGIE!

Soldiers being transported thru ITR at Camp Pendleton are subjected to organized calls of DOGGIE ! Been there, heard that!

They go through boot like any other recruit. If they use their prior service to the benefit of their team they can quickly reap the awards. Our recruit company old man and honor grad was prior Army. He was 31 by the time graduation happened in July '06.

Well Pvt. Hansen, had ya been an Army grunt for a while getting along in Marine BCT may have been a tad bit easier. Have faith in yourself son, and never quit. No matter the Marine challenge given to you by the DI's. You can always do more than what you think you can. Do whatever it is to be done till you drop, start crawling and say give me more. I am better than this. These same traits will also serve you well in the civilian world.

You will go through BT as prior-service, but you can not have any rank and will not be treated any differently then any other recruit.

Like every other recruit. If you display leadership or look/act more mature you may be appointed as a Squad Leader or Platoon Guide. If you act "entitled" or make your PS known you might not like the outcome.

All recruits, including prior service, are treated like the maggots they are. At least my drill instructors treated everyone with the same voracity.

Speaking from the perspective of a submarine Sailor who knew one or two shipmates who were former Marines...when they get to the ship, they're just another shipmate.

They just have a personal background as a Marine, which makes their history, experiences, and stories as unique in their own way as everybody else's.

As for bootcamp...I believe we had someone who was from another service in my company, and he was treated just like everybody else.

You'll likely get E3 (Lance Corporal) out of Boot Camp, other than that it's back to square one

You will start from Point Zero- any non USMC prior service is just another boot- thu hopefully smarter.
