How Do Military Flights Work?

I’m currently waiting for orders (anywhere from 72hrs to 5 business days), Don’t you wait months after you get your orders to actually leave? Just Curious

Due to the topics tagged I am guessing you are pending discharge and waiting for the flight home. Once you have orders you work with travel to get your arrangements squared away. If you are getting discharged I don't see how/why you would be pending a flight for months. I don't understand the context but that seems unrealistic.

It's not a military flight, it's a civilian flight. You'll get separation orders that will give you a separation date. You'll fly out that day on a civilian carrier
