How do I qualify for Non Medical Attendee if I am within the 100 mile radius? Are there any exception policies available?

My child was born at a hospital 70 miles away because the MTF does not have the capability to treat his condition. I drive about 140 miles and am fortunate enough to have a place to stay while we are up there. Financially we are in a bind. Command says I should be a NMA, patient administration says that I don't meet the criteria. Any advice and direction is greatly appreciated.

I was given NMA status when my son was hospitalized, in both civilian and military hospitals, because a minor child is required to have an adult present by most facilities and my spouse was unable to be there. Our patient administration found a way around the wording because of the requirement. Have them do some research, especially if command says you should be there.

I'm not sure what a NMA is, but there should be other options available to you. The Exceptional Family Member Program would be the first people I talk to. I'd continue to ask around, someone should have more resources regarding your situation.
