First, you have to give up your man card. It seems you're willing to do so. Then you can wait to reclass. I'm sure the infantry will be better off. If you want an easy life why shouldn't you have it. The infantry if much harder in real life than some video game.

I don't think this is the correct forum to be putting down soldiers--unless, of course, you know the particulars of his decision to leave the Infantry. Which I can come to the conclusion you don't. This forum ought to be a place where service members can ask questions about the profession without fearing being put down by others. If the kid wants to support the fight, he ought to pursue doing so as he might turn out to be a better asset to the Army in that role.

1LT (Join to see) - Thanks for the insight but I already know enough. After reading the comments it seems they think that going to be SF as support will give them a better chance to be SF. It is just a private mistake.

Have some pride in what you do we don't support we fight. If you want to be in group go get your long tab and be the main effort. Not that we don't need support.

SSG Cletus Slabach - For SF you do not need to read-up. You apply, go to selection, and is selected to Q Course. It doesn't matter where you are assigned!

MAJ Javier Rivera - Understand that. It is a lot easier to reup for SF then getting released from a unit in Division. Most units do not like to release soldiers for anything. It may have changed in the last 20 years. Other units may be more understanding. But the 82nd wasn't.

SSG Cletus Slabach - Not sure how it was in the past but for the last 20 something a soldier who wanted to be SF had to go thru a SF Recruiter. For someone who just want to be assigned as a support that is a different story and 11 series or any other combat MOS are out of the question. How I know that? I recruited them!

If the soldier is an 11B, and in Division. The easiest way to get to Group is Reenlist. The only way Division will release most soldiers is an act of Congress.

Look PFC (Join to see), I'm going to spell this out for you, since your DS failed to do so when you were in OSUT;
1. Infantry is the primary FIGHTING force of the Army. We are not Pak, Supply, or Cooks.
2. We do not support people. They support US!
3. If you want to work with the Special Forces community, then get your E-4 (because the waiver process is a pain in the ass), and drop a packet at SORB. It's on Ardennes, and it's really easy to find.
4. If you want to support someone else, then turn in your cord and those disks that you wasted 15 weeks to get, and reclass to a support MOS.
5. Infantry doesn't work in a support battalion for SF. They have Division for that. The support guys in the SF battalions are Cooks, Riggers, Pak clerks, and Supply.
In short, you have been in the Army long enough to know how to wipe your own ass and that's about it. You should not be looking at a reclass option, or moving to support another unit. You need to be sacking up and learning your job, as well as the job of the man above you (ie., your team leader). I am in the process of pursuing a CMF 18 series myself, and I can tell you, if you want to be able to bounce around and work with everyone and their mother and do jobs that aren't your own, Special Forces is not the way for you. I grew up around it, and I have been good friends with operators my entire life. You are Infantry. Be Infantry. Learn it well, and apply it before you start looking at doing other stuff. You would only be wasting your time and those who sought to train you.

Hell yeah, man. Be warned, he may lose a bit of motivation by the end of Ranger School. If he does, keep his nose to the grass and don't let up. Good Soldiers get burnt out all too often by the BGD and we lose them. If he is as squared away and motivated as you are, keep his ass moving. I'll have his 6 if we ever cross paths

Oh Man that is really nice! He is a tough respectful and squared away. I am very proud of him! He wants to do 2o or more. I am pretty sure when he goes back to SF selection he will make it! He was close but young and needs more exp. He will sure get it in Ranger school. He has a good friend in 2nd bat. at Ranger School now. 2nd time. He blew his ear drum out Slide helo cast into water and got med dropped.

I've had Infantry support us many times. When I was in the Infantry we supported 5th GRP in the push to take Iraq. Sorry but Infantry supports too.
