How do I file a disability appeal through the VA?

I was denied sleep apnea and was not evaluated or even spoke to anyone regarding it. The VA stated “not service connected”. How do i file an appeal? I was approved 10% for tinnitus. Also how do i go about getting an ID card to allow for base access? (New law which starts jan 1)

Write a letter to the VA expressing you appeal and explain why in great detail. . They will send you more forms to fill out. Don't do any appeals online. Do everything hard copy and signed by you and saved at your local clerk of court. Nest step if they just grant you nothing or too little, write your state representative and attach your court copies. You not use email! What state do you live in?

When you say you were never evaluated or spoke to anyone about the apnea.....do you mean you were never evaluated nor spoke to anyone about your apnea while you were in? If you suffered apnea while in the service but never evaluated for it/never documented in your military medical records, you are going to have one hell of an uphill battle getting the VA to say it was service connected.

As for the ID part, I would recommend you speak with the nearest base to you. Will probably have to get a day/visitor pass and then go the base ID office to find out.

i believe your VA patient ID card will get you base access beginning 2020

to appeal a claim denial, get someone (DAV, state VA, etc) to help you. they know the ins and outs better than you will ever know.
