I have LOR's from current unit CO, one from an aviator CO (diff unit), and one from the unit that would be gaining me should I be accepted.

I had convenience and luck for the first couple, but how would others go about developing that mentor/men-tee relationship that would also be interested in supporting your career? How do enlisted SM's APPROPRIATELY go about asking for LOR's from officers for flight programs if there's little interaction in MOS field? 2016-02-18T21:39:18-05:00 LTJG Private RallyPoint Member 1313498

I am currently applying for an officer/pilot program. Lcpls have no problem talking to other Lcpls. LtCols have no problem talking to other LtCols. The easiest way is just to ask.

"Sir, I really appreciate you signing the LOR for me. You don't by chance know WHO the point of contact is over at XXX is do you? I wanted to introduce myself and see about getting a third LOR for the package. I'm really excited about this opportunity."

My personal opinion is don't for a person you think will give an LOR. Just ask a POC. A lot of times, it's the "subtext" however your CO "may" just go "Oh, that's Col X. Let me arrange something." Or "Here's his Adj's number. Tell him I told you to call." If you have endorsements from your command, you've already got a head start. As you already know, the Corps is small enough that you can make some great connections via your current position. Although I was Motor T/Logistics, I personally knew, at least, 12 aerodales... still keep in touch with 'em. Those on active duty are even better connected. Reach back to those who drafted those letters of recommendation and tell them you intent. I see you're already in the Wing... so, it shouldn't be too much of a stretch. Good Luck, Devildog!
