How did We the People go so far off the tracks with Election 2016?

We the People don't have anyone to blame but ourselves. We chose these candidates. We made this mess. And, if we don't get our act together, we're going to relive it again and again like the Bill Murray movie, Ground Hog Day. I can't stand reliving all this drama, can you?

Can we at least agree to dump the old ways, the old parties, the old dogma and try something else?

Both major parties are hopelessly corrupt. The only answer is to kick them both to the curb and enact serious campaign finance reform. It's not likely to happen, however it's not impossible and it may be our only hope of saving this Republic.

I've been dealing with situations like this since I started voting. Not counting all down-ticket and off-year elections, Presidential elections only, I have participated in 8 (9 after Tuesday). My most desirable primary candidate has been the nominee 6 times, and the nominee I voted for has won 4 times. If I was going to base my future actions on past performance, I might agree with you. The fact is there are a lot of citizens out there voting, for better or worse reasons, for better or worse candidates, and I prefer it that way.

Elections prevent Civil Wars. So far, we've only had one (and that was really a War for Independence, like the one in 1776, and not a true Civil War at all).

I think this is normal part of growth for a Democracy to have a bad experience every now and then and it's how the Democracy becomes stronger. I don't think the next Presidential election will be nearly as colorful as this one.

Most elections its a matter of voting for a candidate. This election its about voting against a candidate. Can't get any sadder than that. There isn't any WIN in this situation.

America has been under attack for the last 50 years by a full court press to destroy/weaken it. From illegal aliens, Muslim immigrants like the ones in Germany, France, etc...the Democrat Plantation, Debt, the EPA, school indoctrination and NAFTA/GAT. Not to mention endless war.
It is ordained in the Bible for the world to be ruled by mankind for a short time.
We are at the door step. A North American Union away from 7 regions.

Yes the candidates did it to themselves Donald Trump not knowing how to put time to be quiet and Hillary Clinton screwing herself up big time and she's supposed to know about security for the last 20 years but we know but the state department being all screwed up and she's a reflection of it.

One of the reasons is that very few voters have the balls to break with their favored party because they're too scared of the other side winning. Each party banks on this phenomenon. Vote 3rd party/independent, and make sure the Republicans understand that they can't just run any dirt bag and win. Republican voters want a principled conservative. Not a Rino. Not a rabble rousing blowhard. The party has pissed away 2 elections in a row, and is about to piss one more away.

The system needs a major overhaul. Go to a popular vote and get rid of the electoral college. The parties that get a certain percentage of the votes will become qualified parties. Any money raised by any party goes to a general fund where it will be equally distributed among the qualifying parties. All qualifying parties will then be on equal footing for campaigning. For voting purposes , all registered voters would receive a voters identification card with a picture, address, and microchip with bio-matrix loaded much like the CAC card. The card would be validated and then used while voting.

I don't think it was the "people" that caused or allowed this to happen. Both sides decided that they needed to differentiate themselves and distance themselves from the other party - and got more and more polarized as time went on - while most of the citizens are somewhere in the middle. The Left went around the bend to the Left, and the Right went off the deep end to the Right - abandoning us in the middle. MOST folks are close to being centrists, with RINOs and DINOs dominating, saying they are one party and holding several planks from the other platform dear to their hearts.

And here we sit, with an idiot presented by "my" party, and a crazy person presented by the "other" party - and ALL of us can agree with this statement, whether they are Demoplican or Republicrat.

I think that a lot of good people that may have had political ambition have been turned off by the nature of the political landscape that is nothing more than personal smear campaigns with little consideration for the political ideologies of the candidates or the value of solutions they may espouse for the many challenges that their constituents are facing which leads to many elections where voters are considering the lesser of two evils as opposed to the viability of the candidates on the ballot.

Power corrupts and both parties have been in power for a very long time. We'd be stronger with another viable party, then the other two may change their ways (well until it too becomes as bad as our current two). I just don't know how to get there in a way that would gather enough support to be effective.

Sometimes people are just set in their ways of life and that can be their political party. Some will voice their opinion yet commit to no action. Some will act that will make things worse for them or others. Some can stand up for what they believe and follow their dreams. Everyone, while they can be sheeple, are actually different. Everyone acts and thinks differently. I say that the future of We The People is undetermined because we never know what we are going to think, say, or do next.
