How can you volunteer to become an SGL (or is it DA select)? If you can volunteer, what are some ways to do so besides ASK?

I was the ALC Senior SGL for the 25W CMF at the Cyber Center of Excellence NCO Academy. At our NCOA, we instituted an application process in which you go to the school's website, download the packet and email it in directly. From there the Deputy Commandant would review your credentials (NCOERs, ERB, etc.), and set up a phone interview if you met the professional requirements. Different NCOAs have different processes, but if you are truly interested, I recommend you reach out to the NCOA directly.

Many times for BLC, you can go interview at the Academy. I taught BLC for 2 years and thats how I got SGL. ALC and SLC are a little different, usually require orders. Depending on where you want to instruct, i would contact your branch manager.

SSG (Join to see) - that shouldn't matter I was a 25q in an 11b slot . I would make contact with the Academy and see if they are accepting applications. Your unit will have to release you though.

As long as you are trying to be an SGL for BLC, then not being MI will be fine. ALC is MOS specific, and SLC is Branch specific.
