Haven't a clue, but one of my drill sergeants belong to the witch religion. This was in the early 70's. Found out because the other DI's would yank his chain every now and then (end of basic).

I'm shocked the Army types didn't knee jerk and go to the regs. DoD 7730.54-M, Volume 2 in whatever form is current has a list and the codes for it. One thing for sure in the Army, if it can't be coded, it doesn't exist. I suppose there're some notices that provide a new one every now and then which expire when the main instruction gets updated.

1st, evaluate your reasoning for this move. Ask yourself if you truly believe in the force with a dark and a light side. Do you believe in this religion, or are you trying to make some political statement that while it's your right, may be offensive to those who think you are choosing a fiction sci-fi religion as a way to belittle their beliefs.
If you truely believe in this religion, then you work through your S-1 to make changes to your records including the ERB and dog tags.

To my knowledge it is not on the Religious Preferences List. The DOD is currently undertaking an overhaul of how the RPL list is managed and how new preferences are approved. As things stand today no new preferences will be added until that overhaul is completed. The DOD Chaplains have a specific working group that is meeting on the issue. My organization is in regular contact with them about adding a religious preference at the moment,

My dog tags read "heretic" on the religion line... because they let a wiseass Lcpl (me) operate the machine, and idgaf what mumbo jumbo you read over my corpse (as long as you're wearing goat leggings). Only one other Marine ever noticed. He was upset (religious dude), but didn't report me. Still got the tags.
