How can you get Emergency leave while in AIT?

I just got some terrible news I found out my grandma is dying from heart and kidney failure
I’m in AIT. Missing a few days will recycle me to a different class if the commander approved

You can take emergency leave. I have had some of my Soldiers only take a few days and they only did during a weekend where they missed a Monday or Friday for school. If you do miss a lot you will be cycled to the next class that has enough room.

I took emergency leave when I was in AIT and got recycled. I don't regret the decision. There's no shame in recycling for emergency leave. The real question is whether seeing your grandma before she goes is worth more to you then having to re-do some training.
You need to decide. If you get a Red Cross message about grandma, your CO will authorize leave -- you do not have to take it. But you do have to look yourself in the mirror in the morning.

My grandmother on my maternal side died while I was in CA for a 'fake deployment' training and we were done waiting to clear and go back to Drum. They wouldn't let me go. I was stuck across the country(Home state TN) and didn't even get to go back until after I left Drum and went home and to the NG.
It's part of being in the military.

Go when you get the chance you will still join the regular army but families something you're gonna regret spend time with her before she passes I wish you best of luck

Make a decision for your family and take the emergency leave. Your family should contact the Red Cross office nearest your Grandmother’s location. They can verify her condition to your commander. The military is good at handling this type of situation. School commanders see it fairly often.

If your grandmother is considered loco parentis (as in, she raised you for 10+ years of your life) then you can take non-chargeable emergency leave. If she did not, then you can still take the emergency leave but it is chargeable. It will be up to your commander to approve/disapprove the leave request. As for missing days and getting recycled if you head home...well, that call is up to you. But, I have to ask you this: What's more important? Not getting recycled or getting the chance to say goodbye to your grandmother and getting that closure? I was gone for the military when both of my grandmothers passed away. I never got that full closure. IMHO, go home and say goodbye. Again, that's just IMHO.

Prayers to you and your family. You'll only have this last chance to say goodbye to your grandmother. You already have another chance to do AIT. However the leave is characterized, charged or not, you should take it.

I was in a similar situation in basic training and received a Red Cross message that my grandmother had passed away. I was lucky enough to have seen her right before I left for training but if I was in your spot I wouldn’t hesitate to take leave to have the opportunity to say my goodbyes. I would recommend taking leave if your command approves it.

Soldier, You have to let your AIT Instructor know ASAP. It's a Packet that you have to put together so the BN Commander and BDE Commander can sign off of it if it's the Family E-Leave brings them to Tears...

You'll need a Red Cross message sent to your unit, and approval from your AIT Company Commander.

Let your DS know. Might be able to get a 2 or 3 day pass it happend for me but my family member passed away

The only way is if your Grandma is loco-parentis, otherwise emergency leave is not authorized by regulation.
