How can our government better provide for veterans after combat?

What type of transition and reintegration programs can our govermwnt implement to better prepare our veterans for their return to civilian life. What can government do to prepare and educate the veteran's family members on hope to identify the veteran's triggers?

As a government entity ... I think they are doing more harm than ever ... I still believe that this kind of problem can only solve by the people only, not through the government.

The government needs to figure out how to test and measure an individual's resilience. If they don't have a high threshold for it, then the government needs to keep that individual away from a combat MOS.

VA benefits should be automatic for someone coming off active duty for up to five years.
The process to request VA benefits should be an automatic process by which you leave active duty and based on a discharge physical you are assessed and assigned a disability rating, all medical records should transfer over. The physical should have a follow up 180 days or one year later at a VA hospital to check the discharge physical findings.
I think this action alone would solve many issues with soldiers missing care.

Does anyone think that the VA can handle any more on their plate? Maybe military personnel shouldn't be discharged until their disabilities/injuries/illnesses arising from their service are resolved.

If your DD214 says combat action it should be automatic that there should be at least a 50% start off of disability. I have a jacked up back, knees and shoulder but yet because of the mobility or the degree of which I can move them keeps getting shut down when applying for an increase, if you served at least 20 years or more, the body is worn down from wear and tear on the knees. So I say all that to say this, mobility shouldn't be the only way of compensating a vet on his body parts.

The whole process should be looked at. Redeployment screening, how the units treat those in physical and mental needs, how they are treated at the MEB, and the transition to the VA. The process is often not standardized.
