How can I get assigned to an Antarctic mission?

As I toy around and look at the things I’d like to do in my career I began to wonder how one gets the chance to go to Antarctica. Anyone have any clues?

I deployed there 3 times when the Seabees ran the Public Works and construction side and did other support functions for the science effort. Since then, USARP has contracted both the support and construction out. The few MIL slots left are associated with the ANG ski equipped C-130 operations, some AF stuff for the C-17s in the summer season, and CG icebreaker coordination. There's some billets associated with air traffic control. So what does Army do? Nothing that I can tell. I don't know if there are any purple logistics support slots though. The support contractors typically have open hiring but I've noted the pay isn't great.

I don't know about Antarctica but you could try the Cold Weather Leadership Course (CWLC) or the Cold Weather Orientation Course (CWOC) at the Northern Warfare Training Center.
