You'll have to complete a Standard Form (SF) 86. Your unit Security Manager will be able to check to see if you have a current clearance and be able to help you get one started.Response by TSgt David L. made Jan 8 at 2019 6:20 PM2019-01-08T18:20:44-05:002019-01-08T18:20:44-05:00Maj John Bell4270236<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>I am not sure I understand the question. The granting of a clearance is based on the needs of the service and the responsibilities of the service member, not the service member's desire to have a clearance. <br /><br />Even if you are granted a secret clearance, you will only have access to classified information that relates to your need to fulfill your responsibilities.Response by Maj John Bell made Jan 8 at 2019 7:25 PM2019-01-08T19:25:05-05:002019-01-08T19:25:05-05:00MSgt Steven Holt, NRP, CCEMT-P4270569<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div><a class="dark-link bold-link" role="profile-hover" data-qtip-container="body" data-id="1545685" data-source-page-controller="question_response_contents" href="/profiles/1545685-74d-chemical-biological-radiological-and-nuclear-operations-specialist">CPL Private RallyPoint Member</a>, iif I understand your question correctly, you are wanting a clearance for the sake of having a clearance. Unless they've changed the rules, that just doesn't happen. The granting of clearances are based on TO&E requirements and validated "Need To Know". Your unit security manager will be able to help determine what, if any, clearance you'll need to fulfill your tasks. Odds are if you do not have one currently it's because your MOS doesn't require one.Response by MSgt Steven Holt, NRP, CCEMT-P made Jan 8 at 2019 9:57 PM2019-01-08T21:57:34-05:002019-01-08T21:57:34-05:00LTC Leonard M. Manning, Sr4270762<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Are you currently serving in the military? If so your need for a security clearance is determined by the position you are in and your "needed to know" information. If you are not serving in the military and are looking at civilain employment then your compmany security manager would be responsible for your security clearance. The reason civilian companies look for people who already have an "active" clearance is because the clearance is expensive and time consuming to complete.Response by LTC Leonard M.
