How can I find a way to deploy?

I have been in the army now for 4 years and made it to SGT in 3 1/2 and never deployed. How can i find a way to deploy ? I am a 68A low density mos and I just need / want a deployment How would i go about making this happen ?

Relax, the new Army isn't going to be about deployments. Slick sleeves will be the new norm in 5 years.
If you are that gung ho, get a copy of the deployment rotations, and request a transfer to a unit that is on deck.

The issue that you will be in running into is your MOS. Some are more prone to deploy than others. Usually combat arms are the most heavily deployed along with any supporting that you will find in a Brigade Combat Team. A low density MOS like yours is not commonly found in a BCT. They will be at a hospital or a AMC. As you have come to find out they do not deploy.

Previously all and every MOS deployed. I recall a friend of mine was a Parachute Rigger at Fort Bragg and was deployed to provide route security in Iraq in 2005. The deployed army of occupation is long gone. The need to set up large medical facilities is over for the most part. The likelihood of any deployments is something that is eluding many.

If you set on finding a deployment your best bet would be trying to contact your branch manager to join a unit that is deploying. You may go as an individual augmentee or may even have to PCS to a unit to become organic with them. Peace time deployments are taking the place of combat tours. These are also beneficial as you will be able to gain knowledge while you are there.

I know that is a medical MOS, but not sure what that Alpha designator indicates?

The challenge that you are going to run into as we deescalate in Afghanistan is that there simply will not be a demand for your specialty.

However, if you want to deploy, you should contact MEDDAC. Most deployments to Afghanistan are now what is called WIAS (worldwide individual augmentee system) takings.

I know that MEDDAC has a responsibility to provide medical advisors to the medical supply depot in Kabul. However, those are not combat advisor jobs, so there is nothing sexy about it. But, it could be an option.
