His contract is up in less than a year and he is planning to reenlist as active duty with a dream of going to Warrant Officer Flight School.
He is in the works of talking to people and figuring out what he needs to get done in regards to requirements, the packet, ect.
If this all works out in the long run and he gets selected. How does this all work... I know he will go to Fort Rucker, Alabama for school. Do I go with him? Or does he go alone? Sorry for my ignorance, just trying to figure out the logistics of everything! It would be great to talk to a SO who has gone through this all.Housing/ Warrant Officer Flight School/ Wife?2019-06-29T12:46:47-04:00Jessica Pike4763762

Hi!

My (soon to be) husband is in the Army Reserves. Flight is roughly a year long between the Warrant Officer Candidate School and Flight. Once he’s close to finishing his flight school he’d get orders cut for his first location on whichever airframe he’s chosen. I hope that helps!Response by CW2 Private RallyPoint Member made Jun 29 at 2019 1:10 PM2019-06-29T13:10:57-04:002019-06-29T13:10:57-04:00MAJ Ken Landgren4763981

Collectively we can answer questions about funding the PCS move, housing, and transportation.Response by MAJ Ken Landgren made Jun 29 at 2019 2:02 PM2019-06-29T14:02:07-04:002019-06-29T14:02:07-04:00CWO3 Private RallyPoint Member4764424

Tons of resources on the net, and quite a few aviators on RP. My advice to any family members in new duty station is to meet other family members. Each of you will have different experiences and can really help each other out.

BTW, in most cases if it is a PCS move (Permanent Change of Station), the family is moved as well.Response by LT Brad McInnis made Jun 29 at 2019 10:15 PM2019-06-29T22:15:54-04:002019-06-29T22:15:54-04:00CW4 Private RallyPoint Member4764970

Hi Jessica; congratulations to your fiancé for volunteering to continue his services with the active duty component, and for also selecting the Warrant Officer Path as a future goal.
His first step, as you stated above is to successfully transition into active duty. Once he transitions into the active duty component, he will be assigned to a command that will more than likely have a Warrant Officer onboard. That Warrant Officer will groom him, write his letter of recommendation, and help him put his packet together. Here are some things he can do in advance:
1) log on to the HRC website, and download the Warrant Officer checklist. This will give him a more realistic idea of what is required of him to submit a Warrant Officer packet.
2) get the latest flight school prep study guide. He can buy it at the clothing and sales on any military base, get it from the local recruiter’s office, or get it online from amazon. This will help him get ready for the test.
3) have a current physical done that will not expire during the time he is in school; should he be selected.
4) ask for recommendation letters now from his current command since they have worked with him.
If your fiancé gets selected, you may not have to go with him to Ft Rucker right away, because his follow on assignment is dependent on him passing the initial course; however, if it's a PCS move, his orders will specify in advance the authorization for the family to accompany him.
Let me know if this helps some.Response by CW4 Private RallyPoint Member made Jun 29 at 2019 10:34 PM2019-06-29T22:34:14-04:002019-06-29T22:34:14-04:00Rita Corpier-Weiss4765210

My now ex hubby went through this in 1989. I moved to Ozark right beside the base. He was in the year long lock up part of his flight school training. He got to come home one weekend a month. There were a few family activities on base as well. They should have a good support system for families, especially with social media/technology.
