When I retired, my HHG were sent from VA to SC at no cost to me. Granted the distance and logistics involved with your move is quite a bit more challenging.

http://dcp.psc.gov/CCMIS/Travel/Retirement_Travel_and_Transportation_Supplement.aspx

Commissioned Corps Management Information System

MSgt Michael Durkee Thu, 19 Feb 2015 12:09:45 -0500 2015-02-19T12:09:45-05:00 Response by LTC Yinon Weiss made Feb 19 at 2015 12:59 PM https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/household-good-shipment-hhg-to-overseas-upon-separation?n=485647&urlhash=485647

From what I recall, the military will cover the cost of household good shipment to your initial home of record when you joined the military. If you want to ship your goods beyond that, the difference comes out of your pocket.

This can be good or bad for people, as it seems somewhat arbitrary where their last duty station is, and how close it comes to where their home of record was when they joined the military. So if you are moving to Australia, you need to have an Australian address for your address of record.
