Your Command would need to slot you into an NCO (SGT) position and laterally promote you while waiting to promote to SGT. Keep in mind, I am only giving secondhand info here. Essentially anyone that is a CPL is pretty much on paper ready for SGT.

Yes, yes, it use to be in order to be a CPL there had to be a vacancy for an E5 slot with no other MOS qualified E5 to fill it, and it was an opportunity for the Company Commander to promote said SPC to the role of CPL, but effectively that SPC had to basically be in line for promotion anyway (all in all it was rather moot, and more or less a temporary morale boost to the soldier while waiting for board results).

Noooooooooooooowwwwwwwwww............. as I understand it one should get promoted to CPL as soon as BLC is done.

I presume this is all done at the policy level, and nothing has been automated in the system.

So I presume it's still going to have to be actioned administratively by the Commander and Company Level S1.

Don't get too excited. One then has to buy new ASU pants (I guess not if using AGSU) and new rank sewn on for effectively no additional pay increase. I was made an Infantry team leader and therefore became an NCO and was added to the NCO duty roster ( I think I had already passed the e-5 board and attended PLDC already but not sure as it was long ago and my memory is not the best anymore). We were promoted in front of the company and there was a promotion ceremony where they pinned our stripes on us. So that's how I remember becoming a corporal I don't know how they do it in today's Army.
