I love camping and RV'ing. I love visiting the immense array of national parks, forests, monuments, and state parks in our nation. How many of you do this, and you ever used to large network of military camping and lodging facilities around our beautiful country. I can tell you that the military facilities are just as good as the big dollar, commercial places, and come at a fraction of the cost. One of our absolute favorites is the RV Park on the Quantico Marine Base. Super nice, super inexpensive, and a great base camp for everything there is to see and do within a two-hour drive...and that's a ton of stuff!!!

To be honest, I've never heard of these accommodations. And "on base motels"? Are these things that are offered to Veterans as well or just current service members?

Vandenberg Air Force in CA has some great VIP quarters, (E-9s make the cut).

I like some of the state and national park passes. Give you a big break. Problem is you have to be a resident of the state to get the pass and some states (like Idaho where I'm at now) require 100% disability vs. 40% elsewhere.

Cpt. Ball as an Idaho Parks and Rec employee I continually preach that the 100% disability is a farce. I'll keep after it on my end but Idaho residents need to get ahold of their state representatives and the Parks and Rec Board members.

The AF has an annex near Destin with very nice 3 bedroom houses for $40-50 per night.

Stayed at the DoD recreation area in Destin, FL way back in IOBC during a three day pass as we neared the end of the course. 4 of us at $60/ night for fully furnished and equipped bungalow. As we drove around the area we realized we had landed in the middle of college spring break. It had never occurred to us. The sights on the beach were far better than the 54" snow storm back home in Upstate NY.

RV place I stay at in Bemidji MN (Hamiltons Fox Lake) is run by a Vietnam Vet Marine. Really strives to take care of the military folks that stop there.

One of our favorites is Camp Pendleton, CA San onofre Beach Family Camp. If you like the beach, then you will love this camping destination. Located in beautiful Southern California, minutes from Disneyland, Sea World, Legoland, and the greatest beaches for surfing/body boarding all make this a great place to vacation / camp / RV. Reserve in advance as this is popular with active duty as well as retired service members. Have Fun.
