RP Members I was recently in the Virtual World; what I mean by “Virtual World”, is I became an Avatar.

I was initially hesitant, way out of my comfort zone I must admit, but the more and more I went in; somehow came out feeling better.

I discovered that, there was the beauty and amazement of being in this particular Virtual World. You come out “feeling” better somehow. I was able to capture my freedom. I was able to feel my hair bounce in World, yes feel it bounce! I ran on the beach, flew above buildings, checked out the classrooms, danced, shopped and had a blast with my teammates. I can’t tell you how long it has been since I felt anything like this.

I was shocked at the ability to get lost in that land and enjoyed the “feeling”, with the exception of course of walking into walls, or landing too hard! Like anything that to will come with practice and training.

What was most shocking to me, may not have been as shocking to my Son, who suffers from post traumatic stress and refuses treatment.

Well, during a demonstration for veterans I decided to have my son assist me with my “inability to do video games” and with his mastery of the art. He could teach me how to stop bumping into walls and I wanted to see for myself his own reaction. Bringing him into this particular Virtual World was nothing short of miraculous. As his mother I was astonished. To see an otherwise disengaged young adult, engaged, having fun, exploring, climbing and running; and to witness him feeling all of that, first hand, in a safe controlled environment. A joyful tear fell down my cheek. Realizing that the possibilities are endless for him, it brought him hope again and hope for me as a mother.

He was able to maintain his anonymity, gain self esteem, dance, show off his talents, find more, look around for help, meet people he otherwise would not have had the courage to do in real life; all while being himself as an Avatar. He was learning to cope and realized himself how much fun he was having, but I needed to pay attention to my other work!

While he was in the Virtual World, myself and the rest of the team at Virtual World Solutions d/b/a Sponsor A Vet Life were providing a demonstration to Veterans, Wounded Warriors, Active Duty and their families. As I re-engaged with the team, I watched these veteran’s faces light up over and over again. These Veterans on the Demo, were asking all the right questions. They were getting the feeling of empowerment and they were truly engaged in the program.

Yes, there is absolutely everything, you can imagine in there.

Veterans, Retirees, Active Duty Members & your Spouses, this is a free program and a confidential program. You really do have someone in your corner so that you aren't alone.

Once in, you are feeling hope again and you can see and feel the world is nothing short of amazing. The light bulb goes on over their head and yours. It really is a wish box. You also have your own private Military area, for as civilians we do not enter. You can be in or out of that location meeting up with your comrades, when you are not busy; or you can come see me on the civilian side.

It is amazing to me as a Nurse to watch and witness the progression of care that has yet to be realized within this program. I can’t wait until you get you or your family into World to actually experience it for yourselves. There is something about this “SAFE” place that brings something miraculous.

If is something that you have been missing for awhile and it is different for all of us. Each and every Veteran or active duty service member can find someone or something to fill your heart and get your adrenaline pumping again!

The concept is AWESOME! I was given a tour and the ways these virtual worlds can help vets are limitless. I was very impressed with the demonstration and hope that everyone takes advantage of this opportunity to seek help. It is like playing a game, except it deals with personnal issues and real world problems that we all face. Coming from a teachng background, this is the way of the future and I forsee this concept going global!
