The Commander and CSM seem to embrace the decision, as they publically should, time will tell if SOCOM will survive as is or thrive with the new policy. If they continue to uphold the high standards they are known for there will be now problems.

MAJ Alvin B. I am suspicious of the 'we won't change standards' line. I think they're saying it now, and they probably mean it, even. But future commanders, future presidents? No. Why? Because this isn't going to work out like they want. It will be some very, very few women who can meet the current standards to be, say, a SEAL. They will be statistical out-liers. Anomalies. And yes, they exist, they're out there. But not in numbers that will satisfy the touchy-feely PC crowd. So my guess is that standards will be lowered, and people are going to die. Unfortunately, some of those women, too.

It's the new normal. We integrated women in the Seabees in the late '80s early '90s. Now women will be placed in the most demanding cutting edge combat roles. I expect there isn't a good "before picture" of sound data, not opinions, and then a measurement scheme over the next 20 years to determine what difference, if any, up or down, does it make. So from my perspective, it will be a matter of conjecture. I don't waste time on conjecture. The bosses laid out the way ahead and that will be where we go. If you don't like it, get off the train. If I were still in, I'd say Aye Aye and make sure it was a success.

Alvin I just stumbled onto this video, I agree with the General. He stated in the beginning of the statement we would benefit but would not create different standards there would be only one standard. He also mentioned the OSS and how they recruited both men and women. He could not be more correct.

I think there is room in special operations for women however, standards are there for a reason, they keep people alive. Standards!!!
