Have you read the book "Over the Edge: Death in the Grand Canyon"?

A few years ago I visited and hiked the Grand Canyon. While there I purchased a book called, "Over the edge: Death In The Grand Canyon". This book is about survival and failure to survive traversing the Grand Canyon. The book is written from the perspective of a coroner. The book lists the recorded deaths and mishaps of visitors beginning in 1869. It also contains some stories of survival and details what the reasons were for their survival. Of all of the stories in the book the hardest for me to read are the ones that are the failure of leadership to prepare properly and or to realize they were outside of their element and decisions by some to not use available resources. There are a few accounts of people who survived that are like oasis', a relief from the mistakes of others.

I recommend reading this book as there are many lessons to be learned in it regarding leadership, failure of leadership, the results of poor judgement, planning or a lack of it, and the respite of stories of survival.

What made me think once again of this book is the attached story.

Yes, I have. Many of the stories of how folks died there left me shaking my head at the stupidity of Supposedly 'smart' people.

I heard of it while at the Grand Canyon, but didn't buy it. However, I have read stories about hikers, in the stranded in the Grand Canyon and elsewhere, and have always been fascinated by those that make it, and those that don't; and the why of each.

I rafted the Grand Canyon. They spread out the rafting parties so one feels like they are lost in time and surrounded by exquisite surroundings.
