This is the chat app of choice among my German friends. It was purchased for $X Billion by facebook a couple years ago, but it has changed only slightly since. My favorite feature in whatsapp is the way it seamlessly compresses large files like pics or video without noticeably losing resolution or sound quality. It works better for chat than any other program I've used, but I can't seem to get my younger brothers or American friends to buy in.

Sgt Kelli Mays in some regards this seems to be similar to social media sites in that there is a lot of information posted that is available to the world.

Police make arrest regularly based on social media post.

I am glad they are developing tools to help with issues like missing children.

Have you heard of an app called "whatsapp?" It apparently helped this little lost boy of two yrs be reunited with his family.

No Sgt Kelli Mays I had not heard of an app called "whatsapp?
I am glad that it has at least helped one child to reunite with his family in India.
I am curious if that app or similar apps have been helpful for relocating children in Europe, Africa or North or South America where many go missing each month.

Yes, this is a very popular app in Central America and Europe as far as I know. My family is from Guatemala, and before FaceTime was popular that is how I would communicate with them.
It's a free app that only requires Internet access, and a rudimentary smart phone that can run the app. Pretty simple, with an exchange of phone numbers anyone can be connected around the world.
There are other popular free apps that function the same: Line, Tango, etc...

I'm glad to see that others use this app to communicate with family like the young boy in the story.

Sgt Kelli Mays I am glad to hear that this app was put to such an excellent use and that the young man was able to find his family. I use "whatsapp" to receive photos of my friend's daughter in Germany. It makes sending pics directly from your phone to friends a snap. I really do like this app.
