Joe,

I spent 6 years contracting for a company, because I did not feel as if I belonged in the organizational culture. Through contracting, I had best of both world, a paycheck + experience, but without direct involvement in the company. Having been said, I currently work in an organization where I am a good fit, and it is better that way.
