It was extremely tough for us, especially my wife. We really wanted a 3rd child and through hope and prayer, we received that blessing about a year and a half ago and now my wife is currently pregnant with our 4th child, well technically our 5th, but who is counting. I am just happy to know that someone is looking out for my family. Some years back my younger brother changed jobs and had an hour drive to work each way. He was on the midnight shift and had just finished working an almost 75 hour week. One morning I was running out to do errands and saw him coming down his driveway at 11:30AM. I stopped to talk with him and he looked completely exhausted. The rest of the day I had a horrible feeling in my gut and prayed all day asking God to watch over my brother and keep him safe on his way to and from work that night.

The next morning I was at work running my machine and someone from the front office came running out to my machine. I knew it was my brother. He had fallen asleep driving his S-10 pickup and struck the back of a log truck which was stopped, waiting to make a left hand turn. They were bringing him in to the local hospital and mercy flighting him to Savannah, which was two hours away. At the moment I asked God why he did not answer my prayer, and why this accident has to happen, but as the days unfolded and we received all of the information, God not only answered my prayers but sealed them with a great "I AM!"

That morning, just prior to striking the truck, my brother passed another gentleman on the road, just as they were approaching a hill. They looked at each other and the man said that when he reached the crest of the hill my brother had already hit the truck. He stopped to render assistance and just happened to be a nurse, controlling the bleeding and keeping him stable until the ambulance arrived. While he was working on my brother, who was trapped inside, the truck caught fire and between the nurses vehicle and the truck driver they had just enough fire extinguishers to put the fire out. Travelling in the opposite direction was our neighbor and her friend, both nurses, on the way to a medical conference. They stopped and assisted treating my brother as well. if there were logs on the trailer of that truck, they would have went through the cab and decapitated him, but it was empty.

They mercy flighted him to Savannah and began emergency surgery, using the only doctors that were available, the on-call doctors. It just so happened that the doctors that were on call from the plastic surgeons, to the cardiologists, to the dental specialists, all were the top doctors in their respective fields. They each had two teams working on him at the same time because they could not keep him under anesthesia for as long as the repairs would take. My brother fractured every bone in his face from the eyebrows down. They had to insert plates under his eyeballs to keep them in place and totally reconstructed his nose from pins. his cheeks were all wired back together and the upper piece of his skull, under the nose, snapped off so when he was lying flat his upper teeth were folded back against the roof of his mouth. They reattached that and wired his lower jaw back together, which was broken in three pieces. He also sustained a broken arm which came through the skin. No broken legs or ribs. After he healed you could not even tell he sustained that amount of damage.

I was the first to see his truck after the accident. The entire front of the vehicle up to the firewall was completely gone. The engine fell and was pushed back under the cab. The truck was v-shaped as the frame bent, with the bed of the truck bending upward on impact. My brother and I are almost the same size, and I squeezed into the driver seat. The steering wheel was bent, air bags deployed, but the steering wheel stopped less than an inch from his chest. The dashboard and firewall were pushed back until they made contact with his legs and stopped.

Because he had just started that job he had no health insurance. People in our hometown held a fundraiser and raised over $5000 to help with medical costs, and once all of his procedures were done, the surgeons wrote off what he owed them, and the dentist paid for him and his fiance to have an all expenses paid honeymoon at a bed and breakfast in Savannah.

No, God did not stop the accident from happening, but he answered my prayers by bringing all of those things together on that day to ensure he lived and lives a normal life today. He is the great I AM! There have been several times when I felt so strongly pushed in a certain direction that to fight it would have been an obvious mistake. I felt the calling to take that job in Alaska although I knew no one, had nothing but my shoes for transportation, and had no money. When I got there, everything fell into place with ease. I was able to work with an amazing man who mentored me daily and helped me learn to surrender my control to God. The other time was when I met my wife Hitomi. I was devastated, depressed, feeling worthless, and of course after a while lonely. I didn't think any woman would want me. I didn't think I should stick any woman with me. I didn't think any woman would put up with me. In spite of knowing I should not burden any woman with me, I prayed to the Lord to send me a woman who would love me as I am, unconditionally. Leaving out all the details, that's exactly what He did, sent me a girl who was and is closer to the Lord than anyone I have ever met, and is willing to put up with my imperfections and loves me unconditionally. God hears and answers our prayers. He is our loving Heavenly Father and wants to bless us with every good thing.
