Have you ever entered or been a part of a COLOR RUN?

I have seen these runs before and my daughter has been a part of them and so has several other families I know. This weekend gave me the opportunity to partake in a COLOR RUN for the first time and everyone from my 9 year old up to the 51 year old had a blast. Have you ever had the chance to participate in a COLOR RUN?

The run I attended this weekend was to support the Family Readiness Group of Headquarters Company Special Operations Aviation Regiment (SOAR). If you get a chance and like doing things out of the box, check them out nearest you.

I did a color run in Kuwait at Camp Buehring about a year ago. It was interesting. The blacktop road was stained with green and red and blue for about a week afterwards!

First one I ever went on was in bootcamp and we went on a Company run through Balboa Park. Before we went, at least in our platoon, the DI's actually made us all get online and they held an "Ugly Private Contest" where they looked us over and singled out the ugliest privates.

They told us we were going on a Company Colors Run out in town and they didn't want the public to see ugly Marine recruits. The winners of the contest were designated gear guards and did not get to go out on the run.

[As an aside, I don't know who's idea that was, but I suspect that it was the same DI that on a different occasion cracked a joke about my unibrow and made me go in the head and tweeze the hairs off with my fingers. I actually found that hilarious and had to keep from laughing out loud when, during hygiene inspection, he told me, "Look at you! What are you? Some kind of freakin' Werewolf? You got one eyebrow; you should have two! Go in the head and fix yourself!" It oozed up and scabbed over, where I pulled all the hair out by the roots, and for a few days looked worse with the scab there than if I had left it alone. LOL, He never made me do it again.]

In the case of the ugly privates, they were being denied a fun opportunity to go out in town, and it was based solely on their physical appearance -- something which the Privates had no control over. I never hold against someone those things about themselves that they cannot change. It would almost be funny had it not been so harsh.

I just did one of these out in Mobile last month, these things are pretty cool. I want to do the Spartan Challenge when it comes to the area.
