Have you ever created your own military cadence ? Did you use it? Was it a blend of an existing one or was it a total original ? Care to share a few lines of it here ?

I did, but that was when we had scars on our knuckles and didn't have to look over our shoulder......or be 4 miles out from base.

I tried it once when I was a young soldier, messed it up and the SGT made me run an extra 5 miles for it.. never tried it again after that..

I sure did and I still do today! I give boot camps for Corporations and always make a few cadences with the company story or the leaders and such...they love it of course.

No, but our Drill Sergeant taught us one that I believe was original to him.

Actually, now that I think about it, I did make up my own once, but since I only got to call cadence once, I don't remember much of it.

I normally create a new cadence on the spot of which is one of many talents I have that has not helped or hindered my career.

Yes we did and we were allowed to sing pretty much whatever we wanted, whenever we wanted. The only exception was when we ran in or near base housing (which only ever once or twice).

I remember getting to base housing and one of our Sgt's who had been a Sgt, more than once, jumped out and created, on the fly, one of the nastiest cadences I ever heard. The Battalion Commander was not amused. His XO came back and told him to stop, he didn't. You can imagine how that ended. A couple of Staff NCO's had to intervene. Surprisingly he was not NJP'd or anything else.

I've never made one, but used one a peer (who's no longer in the military) made during runs; it's a spin from "The Ants Go Marching".

"Soldiers running, one by one
Last one stopped to grab his gun
The other Soldiers kept running on
On and on, without the last one."

It continues the same, changing numbers.

Two - tie his shoe
Three - take a knee
Four - hit a door

Etc.

I would put a personal spin on all the oldies, Captain. Usually putting names of the Platoon or Company leadership in the cadence. Usually got some laughs.

More than a third of a century ago, I was a young Platoon Leader in Echo Troop, Second Squadron, Second Armored Cavalry Regiment, Bamberg, Germany. I wrote an “Armor-specific“ couple of lines to the tune of “Up in the mornin’, before day”...Went something like this...

Clank, clank, clank coming over the hill
M1 daddy moving in for the kill
“Gunner, sabot, T-62”
Lase to that joker and punch it through...

Now if I spot me some troops in a field
Upload Beehive and make ‘em a deal
And if I spot me an enemy bunker,
Load me a HEP and blast that sucker.

It wasn’t much but my platoon enjoyed it at the time...

A guy in my platoon created one to the rhythm of Taliban cadence but made it about the battery, with a few lines for each platoon.
"I see the Outlaws drenched in red
Won't quit the mission till blood is shed
Devils straight from the pit can't you see
Straight out of Hell Delta 1/19"
And so on and so forth. It became quite popular, and when we marched back from graduation, the drill sergeants had us call it one last time. Never hollered so loud in my life.
I'd be interested to see if it gets passed on to the next cycle. It was a kick-ass cadence.

I'm working on one but with the new EO and toned down Army, trying to update the old hard-core cadences without cursing has been very difficult lol
