Have you brought your children/child up with religion?

SPC Margaret Higgins of course. I want to raise them to hopefully accept Christianity and view that as a responsibility for me as a parent. Deuteronomy 11:19

Most of my childhood was with my grandparents and they were religious. They followed the tenants of the Bible, but never preached to us. When we had received religious indoctrination (not meant in a bad way), we were left to make our own decisions. Same with my two children and now my grandchildren by their Mother. That becomes a very personal decision and should not be made until you have carefully studied both sides of the debate4.

I think it's our responsibility as parents to raise our children with our values and moral standards. I follow a religion, so I believe it's my responsibility to raise my children accordingly. If I didn't follow a particular religion, I would feel it my responsibility to still raise my children with my views and outlook on life.

I haven't got any children myself yet but if/when I do I will be bringing them to Church and starting them on the path of Christ. I myself was raised in the Church and although I don't necessarily consider myself AoG Pentecostal anymore I do still hold a strong faith in Jesus and recognize his importance in my life and know that it is necessary to raise my children the same.

On another semi-related note, I remember reading not long ago a post on another website where someone said parents shouldn't be allowed to bring their kids to Church, that the children should decide where to go. Of course I disagree with that sentiment heavily and it kind of struck a nerve with me that this person had the audacity to suggest that parents not be allowed to raise their children the way they see fit. I understand if once the child is old enough to make their own decision they decide to leave the Church they were raised in but that doesn't mean we shouldn't be allowed to bring them up in the Church.

I know that was sort of off topic but at the same time it does somewhat relate to your question. I'd be interested to see if anyone has any differing opinion on the subject.
