Have we, as active duty or retired military, allowed this election to divide us as much as it has civilians who have never served together?

No... frankly most military members that I know are on the same page regarding the election. If anything, the main divide I saw was between civilians and military.

It's not 'our' fault. It's every American regardless if they served or not. We are Americans first (Legal ones anyway) not the party we choose to be. That's the biggest problem: People are Democrats, Republicans, or Other first and that alienates people from being American.
It won't change any time soon. No speech or person no matter how great can unify every person. It will take a world-changing event like in some disaster movie and even then that may make it worse.

I do not think it has divided us, for we all have respect for our flag, our Corps, and we know that either way, we still have a job to do

The thing that has divided us is the our "our way or no way" attitude of our society.

I think that there is greater respect for your fellow military than there is for your fellow citizen in the non military environment.

Therefore I do not think the divide is as deep.

No I don't think so. Some folks voted one way or the other for personal reasons. I think the majority of folks who are losing their minds are 100% civilians, mis informed or just want to create havoc. Semper Fi.

PS: I did not really like our current outgoing President but he got elected...

Overall, I think we tend be to be quite a bit more level-headed and grounded in our discussions about the election results than the folks who are running around destroying things, throwing public tantrums, or those in the "safe space with crayons, hot chocolate and therapy dogs" crowd. I tend to attribute that to our "Military Bearing" and most of us probably had some level of respect taught at home as well. While I can't say what we are doing in our private lives, I will point out that RallyPoint does not come anywhere close to the level of vitriol posted on other websites such as FaceBook, Twitter, etc.

I don't think so. We swore an oath, saluted the flag and defended our brothers always. We have a different mindset than civilian will ever have. I always greet a vet when I see them & thank them & they do the same to me.

No. I am retired and work in a public high school and without any hesitation can say that civilians are much more crazed and divided by the election. Especially with the rsults!
