The last Gallup poll that I saw on the U.S. public's opinion of institutions still had the U.S. military at the very top of the list, recent news has likely impacted those numbers slightly; however, IMHO I believe the public trust in the military institution will remain high relatively speaking.  Response by Col Private RallyPoint Member made Mar 22 at 2014 2:01 PM 2014-03-22T14:01:09-04:00 2014-03-22T14:01:09-04:00 CWO2 Shelby DuBois 83740 <div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>I feel the pendulum swinging back towards a general apathy regarding military by civilians. When towns and cities across the country are affected by local Reserve and Guard units being activated and deployed along with active duty sons and daughters, there is a deeper concern and attention to military service. When wars are no longer headlines and fewer people directly affected, they begin to see veterans as competition for badly needed jobs. They are not so concerned about the need for funding veteran affairs and military spending in general. There is no such thing as a 'peacetime' military in the truest sense. Military careers are fraught with inherent dangers to life and limb and accepted as routine. And we overuse words like 'hero', calling anyone who serves, any sports figure a hero, any entertainer, any kid with lemonade stand, etc..etc... so that actual hero's go virutally unnoticed. We veterans in the civilian world need to stay on top of companies hiring managers about the postives a veteran brings to the job.
