Has political ideology become a major factor in the military? Does it affect unit cohesion?

There's no doubt that political beliefs are quickly becoming an issue in the civilian world. Hostility towards those that disagree is common these days. I've seen it affect the civilian workplace, but how is it affecting the military relationships between people? Higher ups, peers, and subordinates.

Actually this is nothing new. it Malagasy has been an issue. From the forming of our very first Military, to the Civil War to the Great war on to today, it always has been and always will be a factor.

I feel as if it hurts personal relationships, but the professional side, in theory, should not change.
