She enlisted with undergraduate degree (and student loans). During her six year term, her first three years paid off debt and second three provided GI Bill eligibility for business school.Response by LTC Eugene Chu made Jan 1 at 2019 3:29 PM2019-01-01T15:29:46-05:002019-01-01T15:29:46-05:00SFC Private RallyPoint Member4251931<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>What most people don't account for is that the loan repayment is taxable income. The federal government is required to withhold part of the payment for taxes. So, even if you have a $30k loan and signed up for a $30k loan repayment, you'll actually receive $30k-taxes.Response by SFC Private RallyPoint Member made Jan 1 at 2019 4:07 PM2019-01-01T16:07:24-05:002019-01-01T16:07:24-05:00CPT Private RallyPoint Member4255924<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Not even close. I signed a 50K SLRP - found out that 1. It was taxable (buried in the contract) 2. It has an annual distribution cap. 3. It is a giant GIANT pain in the ass.<br />Good luck!Response by CPT Private RallyPoint Member made Jan 3 at 2019 9:50 AM2019-01-03T09:50:53-05:002019-01-03T09:50:53-05:00MAJ Private RallyPoint Member4257160<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Only federal student loans are paid. If you took out student loans for living expenses and what not from a bank or private lender these will not be paid. I took about 20k out on top of federal loans from another student loan lender to live on as I worked only in the summers while in college. Because private loans can be paid directly to the student, the money doesn't necessarily have to be used for tuition or supplies. Federal loans are paid to the college and anything extra over tuition for supplies is paid to the student. The Federal loans are then paid off in annual installments up to a cap over the term of your contract.Response by MAJ Private RallyPoint Member made Jan 3 at 2019 6:10 PM2019-01-03T18:10:49-05:002019-01-03T18:10:49-05:00CPT Roger Sun4258754<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Yes, many moons ago...Uncle Sam paid it off in three years.
