Or not wanting to do their job right? 2017-08-23T22:05:21-04:00 SSG Private RallyPoint Member 2861819

Has anyone ever had a problem with their S1 screwing them over with promotion issues? I had to have a remedial promotion a whole month later because S-1 didn't run my paperwork. I haven't met a decent S-1 shop, but rumor tells that one exists somewhere. E6 was a complete surpriseas I had only been in the zone for 12 months, and my MOS was a slow promote MOS anyways. I had to request mast for my LCpl, Cpl and Sgt stripes. The worst was Sgt with an 18 month remedial promotion. Lesson learned: track it yourself, take interest in your own career, don't trust the system to get it right. PS: Don't hate the system either. So I organized packets, assisted with awards, things like that. I ended up creating more work for them when it came to E4 - E5 promotions as after learning awards I saw that the E4's going to Board were missing awards on their ERB's. Ended up finding one SM who was missing an AAM that should have been on her ERB. She has the medal, the certificate, and unfortunately whoever drafted the certificate used the same date as her previous AAM so she basically got screwed on that one.

People need to go to their S1 every time they get something. Get an award, S1, complete a school, S1, etc. Juniors need to be advised on how to track their careers and how to deal with paperwork. I think sometimes it's a failure to communicate considering how many E5/E6's came yelling at me when they were informed of their E4 going to board and we were requesting information and the E5/E6 wasn't aware of the Board at all.

Finally, NEVER for the love of God give S1 your only copy, make copies! S1 has a copier, ask to borrow it real quick. I've had some great units and S-1 staff, but I've definitely had the "too lazy to do their job" experience.
