It is never a good idea to stop psychiatric medications cold turkey. Symptoms can rebound worse than usual. Be careful &amp; yes you can work to be medication free. As a prescriber I hated the side effects patients experience with Paxil and Effexor. I also have been on Zoloft for 9 years. I hate needing to take something, but it is a fact of life. The least amount of side effects overall depends on the patient and it is never one size fits all. A DNA profile for antidepressants is helpful. It shows how individuals genetically metabolize all psychiatric medications. Before starting anything, people should know the impact and possible side effects including withdrawal. A slow taper, awareness and support and understanding will help. I got off Paxil in about 15 days. Took a pill then waited 3 days before the next one. Then waited 6 days before the next one and so on. Then I took one more but I do not remember how long.<br />I swam a lot for exercise to keep myself busy. Years later, I am happier than I&#39;ve ever been.
