It is never a good idea to stop psychiatric medications cold turkey. Symptoms can rebound worse than usual. Be careful & yes you can work to be medication free.Response by CPO David Welsh made Sep 17 at 2016 6:05 PM2016-09-17T18:05:17-04:002016-09-17T18:05:17-04:00Col Dona Marie Iversen1902459<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>You must wean (tapper) off these types of medications, slowly. Speak w/your docs and based on the dosages, frequency and length of time you have been taking, they will advise the safest tapering schedule.Response by Col Dona Marie Iversen made Sep 17 at 2016 8:28 PM2016-09-17T20:28:02-04:002016-09-17T20:28:02-04:00Col Rebecca Lorraine1902469<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>That's a great question. As a prescriber I hated the side effects patients experience with Paxil and Effexor. I also have been on Zoloft for 9 years. I hate needing to take something, but it is a fact of life. The least amount of side effects overall depends on the patient and it is never one size fits all. A DNA profile for antidepressants is helpful. It shows how individuals genetically metabolize all psychiatric medications. Before starting anything, people should know the impact and possible side effects including withdrawal. A slow taper, awareness and support and understanding will help.Response by Col Rebecca Lorraine made Sep 17 at 2016 8:35 PM2016-09-17T20:35:41-04:002016-09-17T20:35:41-04:00SPC Shane Drum1902739<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>I have used PaxilResponse by SPC Shane Drum made Sep 17 at 2016 10:44 PM2016-09-17T22:44:05-04:002016-09-17T22:44:05-04:00MAJ Raúl Rovira1902982<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Nothing is impossible.
