When I was active duty I did some sick training at Fort Lewis and was all over the place during every free minute. Repeat of that? Yes, please! Thanks for your time and input, gang. Lewis so if you know the area from Ft Lewis then you know camp Murray . Good post but small with some older buildings. Politics like every place but I enjoyed my time there. Retired in 2007 so things could have changed 1SG David Niles Tue, 22 Nov 2016 15:48:08 -0500 2016-11-22T15:48:08-05:00 Response by SSG Mark Franzen made Nov 22 at 2016 10:43 PM https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/has-anyone-been-to-camp-murray-wa?n=2100170&urlhash=2100170

what is a 92 Y and I have Driven By there many time when I was at Ft Lewis 1974 -1978 1986-88 SSG Mark Franzen Tue, 22 Nov 2016 22:43:48 -0500 2016-11-22T22:43:48-05:00 Response by CAPT Kevin B. made Nov 23 at 2016 4:23 PM https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/has-anyone-been-to-camp-murray-wa?n=2102402&urlhash=2102402

If you like being at a large MIL complex with the BX, Commissary, large hospital, etc., you're good to go. It's south of Tacoma, schools on the slightly above average side, I-5 commute is a bear. I don't call that area the "real" Washington primarily due to the Tacoma industrial side and traffic. I loved west Puget Sound up to about 7 years ago when that area got ever more packed with people. So I left two years ago for much more rural.

Weekends/Evenings: You'll have to drive to whatever you want to do. You'll have to drive to get food, you name it. So POV is a must. Takes about an hour and a half to get up to the Seahawks game, but you're better off parking and taking the train. They do get "B Circuit" acts in a the Tacoma Dome so it isn't like you're in the netherworld, but it doesn't draw like LA, Chicago, etc. CAPT Kevin B. There is a 3.4 MILES perimeter course that you can run and scenes of American Lake, woods, and a stretch of I-5 (noisy and busy). I am with the USPFO and work as the PBO in BLDG 32. Come and visit sometime.

There is lots to do here:

snowboarding, skiing, hiking, fishing, national parks, 3.5 hours within reach to Vancouver, Canada Seattle/Tacoma/Olympia night life, etc...
