Has anybody has seen or heard of an entire BN conducting 14+ miles road marches in AFG?

I recently read an article that said it was commonplace for an entire BN to conduct 14+ mile (it was oddly specific about the 14 miles) road marches in support of ongoing operations. Just curious if anybody has seen or heard of this. It was news to me.

We held an entire 11B qualification, reclass course in Afghanistan in 2004. We also participated in a 17K Danish road march that year too. We were real busy doing nothing I tell ya.

Cold War this was very common of a lot of Units.

COL(P) Private RallyPoint Member our maneuver units patrolled at 6000-12000ft above see level depending on COP/FOB. I don’t know how long the dismounted patrols were. Unless the Air Assault School MTT came to run a cycle in theater, I know of no such forced foot march requirement.

We did a few back in '99 in Kuwait.

Even did a 8 miler on the USS Essex..... That was enough to make you want to shove a spoon in your eye. And yes it it possible to do a road march on an LHD

It would be unnecessary to unless conducting route clearance dismounted. More ground is covered faster and safer using the mine resistant vehicles provided.
