Yesterday I met a young woman from England where Armistice Day is still important and no one would be caught dead without wearing a Buddy Poppy. It seems I'm the first she's seen since she's been here. Sad. Another told me about her grandfather who was a survivor of the Bataan Death March and I told her about my cousin who was a member of the Ranger unit that rescued him. Some had sons and daughters currently deployed and we prayed together for their safe return. To be honest, it's a lot like Christmas with only a few Scrooges hurrying past, afraid to make eye contact. Even those I wished a happy Veterans Day. We don't regret securing even their freedom, do we?
