If you were a SSG and got a DUI, you would certainly face the QMP and NOT be retained. Now, on to your question. If you got the DUI recently, and got it on base, you will certainly face UCMJ, get flagged, and lose your "P" if you had one. If you didn't have the "P" you are still getting flagged and won't be seeing the promotion board any time soon. If you got it off base, you're probably going to still get some sort of UCMJ, get flagged and not see the promotion board any time soon. Expunged? Probably not going to happen if you were arrested and found guilty of the charge.

So...can you still make SSG? Sure. It'll be a long hard road to get you there....but it's gonna be a long, rocky and bumpy drive Response by MSG Private RallyPoint Member made Jan 19 at 2023 9:03 PM 2023-01-19T21:03:09-05:00 2023-01-19T21:03:09-05:00 SGT Alan Martinez 8091918

I understand you may have ruined your career. I haven't seen a reply encouraging you to seek professional help to stop drinking alcohol. The law is the law and you will face consequences that are no longer in your control. Your last sentence makes no sense. You are a Sgt. You can recover, it will take hard work and dedication. It is a battle you deserve for being so callus with your life and the lives of others. You should see shame on the inside everytime you close your eyes as a reminder of how lucky you are not to be in jail for something much worse that a DUI.

Get your act together, be contrite, get help and move on. No way you can make that invisible to Army authorities. What will be considered is your performance prior to, and after. But when you record is reviewed that glaring lack of judgement will stand out against all those in the zone that don't have this type of blemish. Sorry to say your chances are slim, but never say never. I don't know how the Army boards work. A letter from you to the board, accepting responsibility for your actions, your contrition, and your dedication to further service in the Army. Expunging your record? If, and that's a big IF, it were possible it would not mitigate any action taken by your Command, i.e. a Conduct Unbecoming charge.
