Going to a resident course for 3 months in TX from WA. What are my options to get my car there? https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/going-to-a-resident-course-for-3-months-in-tx-from-wa-what-are-my-options-to-get-my-car-there

The course is funded by the school. I'm looking for the most economic way to either getting my car there or getting a rental car paid by the Army. (My NCOs are trying to convince me driving from WA to TX is not an option.) You would normally fly there and not be authorized a rental car unless specified by the course or voluntarily paid for by the unit.

If you choose to drive your car, one day will be TDY and the rest you will have to take leave for. Since one driving day is 350 mile and it stands to reason if you are a 68E your TDY is probably Fort Sam Houston, then at 2100 miles, that's 6 days of travel. So, you would have to come out 12 days of leave for their and back for your TDY, plus you would only be reimbursed for the price of the plane ticket there and back. Also, your command doesn't have to authorize you to travel that distance by vehicle. A prudent commander would probably conclude that a young SPC traveling 2100 miles would not stick to the 350 miles per day max and stop each day at a hotel and get full 8 hours of sleep, thereby becoming a high risk Soldier. Once you are there you can make a friend with a car or use uber/taxi. Depending on the school house and lodging, you may be able to walk. Most school houses will not pay for rental cars.
