Army to investigate desertion claims against Bergdahl: Gen. Martin Dempsey

Gen. Martin Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said Tuesday the Army may still pursue an investigation into the conduct of Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, who was recently freed after nearly five years of being held captive in Afghanistan.

Regardless of which side of this discussion you are on, I believe that an investigation is the right thing to do. I'll be waiting to see what the findings are!

General Dempsey was happy to get a POW returned (makes sense) and now he'll ensure due process (makes even more sense)...these are two SEPARATE actions.

I think it was premature (and childishly typical) for a Soldier to start a White House petition to charge Bergdahl as a deserter...the truth will come out and he'll be held accountable; if not, contact your representative(s).

I think an investigation is a good thing. I support getting to the bottom of his story. At the same time, he is not his father nor a direct influencer of his father's actions. I think his father's actions are creepy, but they should not influence Bergdahl's investigation.
On a side note, now that he is back can we concentrate on freeing our imprisoned Marine?

I think this is a fair statement considering the media representations that have come out over the past couple of days. He must walk the line of his own personal opinion and his professional responsibility to the Nation. He also must demonstrate that this will be a fair and unbiased investigation to find the facts. I appreciate his willingness to respond to an emotionally charged situation and show a level-head. His example may help many others follow suit so that the appropriate action can be taken.

Its a fair statement, at the Top Military officer he has to walk a fine line on not to project his own feelings or he'll be seen as going against the President and we can have that. It being said it other discussions as well as but as long as the investigation is thorough then hopefully we can get to the bottom of this.
