It wasn't hero worship, but there was a respect for Americans - unless (or until) we proved ourselves not worthy of that respect. I recently had the opportunity to read this article and was pleasantly surprised that it was written by a French journalist.
Here's another source: http://www.warriorlodge.com/blogs/news/16298760-a-french-soldiers-view-of-us-soldiers-in-afghanistan Response by PO2 Gerry Tandberg made Dec 19 at 2014 3:36 PM 2014-12-19T15:36:22-05:00 2014-12-19T15:36:22-05:00 SCPO Private RallyPoint Member 398193

SSG Gerhard S. It is nice to see the U.S. portrayed in a positive like. I had not seen the article you posted, but I did see the one that PO2 Gerry Tandberg posted and frankly was presently surprised that it came from the French, I even chuckled when the writer made light of the same. It made me proud when he compared our troops of today with our forefathers that liberated France and Europe. Unfortunately there are many in Europe that do not recognize the sacrifices of the Allied Forces that ensured Europe's freedom.
