Free Concert/Event Tickets for Active Duty/Honorable Discharge/Retired Service Members

Dear RallyPointers: I recently learned about a new offering for service people that allows them to bid on free concert/event tickets that have been donated exclusively for awarding to our veterans. I researched this company, and it is legit. Some events are based on a lottery system, and other events are based on first come, first serve. Events include concerts, sporting events, and every other kind of event.

I am NOT affiliated with VetTix. I think it is a great service/benefit for us, and I wanted to pass it along.

I wanted to follow up with you all and mention my own personal experience with this organization.

I just saw a listing for a concert my family and I wanted to see: Eric Church in Newark, NJ, May 2, 2015. The window was open, 135 tickets were remaining, and I clicked a button and requested (4) tickets. I got them. Within 20 seconds I had them.

The ONLY expense was a fee to get the tickets delivered to the will call booth for pick-up. $14.00, and done.

I also selected the option to donate some $$ back to the VetTix organization for other service people to benefit from.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS SERVICE!!!

I've seen ads for it, but am I correct in that you have to bet for the tickets? Is it like an eBay type thing?

Sometimes I've found just doing some research ahead of time also saves me some money. I'm a member of USAA and there are a lot of Veteran and Military discounts there.

I can get great tickets to the Washington Nationals games for excellent prices. http://washington.nationals.mlb.com/was/ticketing/specials.jsp. I saw a great game on Memorial Day 2 rows from the home dugout for $15 each for me and my daughter and got free drink tickets to boot.

There's also an app called Discount Soldier. Pretty good app too.

Over 2 months ago I requested tickets for a concert, plans changed and for the first time I couldn't attend and event I requested tickets for, I followed the website instructions and gave the tickets to another vet. I was indefinitely banned for "scalping" tickets, emailed for clarification and this is the response I received two weeks later:

"Your account is under investigation for scalping tickets. We will contact you when the investigation is complete.
--
OOooorah.....
Thank You
Vet Tix Support"

That was over a month ago... I followed up and never received a reply. I started looking into their organization and realized that they are no better than the 30% car dealerships around most military bases, with a gigantic operating budget and profits I didn't expect it for what is seemingly a low key operation. Yes I'm upset I can't take advantage of the cheap tickets anymore but I'm more upset about the lack of communication, being wrongly accused and the inability to defend my case. But I also feel cheated because what I thought was a nonprofit that cared about veterans, turned out to be nothing more than a money hungry institution taking exploiting the publics sympathy for veterans and doesn't really give a crap about vets.
