My personal feelings about this are well it's about time, I see so many young and not so young Soldiers and NCOs getting the axe or not being permitted for infractions from long ago, that I can not feel too much sympathy or empathy for this MAJ or any other officer that screwed the pooch whether it was yesterday or 8-years ago, as is the case with this MAJ. The Army is in the process of downsizing and they are "looking" for reasons to jettison folks to help meet the pre-determined end state. I think that the Army will end up losing a lot of quality people as a result, but it is what it is.....

As I read the article that the MAJ wrote and kept reading about all the great things he had done in his career, i couldn't get out of my mind that he had a DUI. I heard a saying that isn't the most appropriate for RP but it pretty much says that you won't be remembered for the 1000 great things you did, but the one bad thing. At the end of the day he mad a decision to go out drinking and not have a plan to get home. That, to me, is inexcusable. Yes, the Army will probably get rid of some great Soldeirs and I feel sympathy for the MAJ but at the end of the day, he made his decision and it affected him almost 8 years later. I would use this as a tool for all Soldiers to learn from.

Letter from a fired Army Major | RallyPoint

I found this post last night from one of the OSB selectees. My first thought was this guy just announced to the world that he had a major problem and that no one would hire him. Rereading it this morning, I think he may be more gutsy that I initially gave him credit for. His letter will not change the board results, but maybe someone high up will read it and think about some institutional changes. Thoughts?
