I do remember Fort Ord, SSgt Private RallyPoint Member. I spent a few days there before and after my assignment to Presidio of Monterey, 1979-1980. We were in the Fort Ord guest house and the walls were paper thin. My pregnant wife and I were "treated" to an X-rated soundtrack for a good part of the night. Pretty classic.

It is quite eerie now, with many of the buildings looking perfect from the inside. Waste of land now, if you ask me.

I lived on Fort Ord from 86-89 while stationed at FNOC Monterey. Actually my son was born at the Army Hospital there. I lived on Spotsylvania Ave, in newer base housing.

I don't specifically recall it, but that is where my Dad attended basic training before AIT and being shipped to Vietnam.

I had the privilege of going TDY to NPS in Monterey. If I get to go again I will have to explore Fort Ord. In Atlanta the signs are still up on the railroad for fort McPherson

Well I can't say I remember it ever being a base, but my father lives in Monterey, and we used to go out to Fort Ord all the time to just mess around. I remember some people turned the prison there into a paintball park, with an inside arena throughout the complex and an outside field inside the prison yard. It was pretty cool. Too bad it got shut down because the neighbors nearby complained that the paintball guns were scaring the horses.

I was stationed at Fort Ord from 1987 to 1990 I ran the Missile shop for th 519th Maint., commanded the 504th Maint. Detachment, and managed the missile shop for tha 707 th Maint. BN. 7th Inf. (light)

I also had the privilage of serving at Fort Ord and the 7th Infantry (L). I was a team leader and squad leader in 4-21 Infantry "Gimlets" from 1986-1987. I loved it there, I used to run my squad for PT to the beach every day, they were in the best shape of their lives. I taught and coached my squad Boxing. Four of my soldiers and myself won the Post Boxing Smokers in 1986. We deployed to Hawaii for a month, and they gave us a whole week off, that was awesome. My stay there was short, but memorable. My favorite place on Fort ord was Stillwell Hall, right on the beach. I would go out there to read, relax, and recharge my batteries. I still visit Fort Ord now-a-days. It is changed, but I rember it at its best.

My husband and I watched the film with interest. It was my first duty station. We closed it down in 93 and both participated in the final ceremony on the parade field.

I did reserve annual traing there a couple times. They also have kept some military housing , PX and commissary at the southern portion. The former Silas B Hayes Hospital is now a DEERs processing center.

Ft.Ord was my first duty station after basic. I was in Aco 1-18 Inf. Buffalos, we were the next battalion over from 2-9 Manchuse. In fact that's where our chow hall was at. We called it planet Ord, cause of the constant cloud cover. I ended up being transferred to Ft.Hood because of the closure, I'll never forget our MOP gear runs, our 12-24 mile road marches. I really had a blast there!!

First assignment after commissioning... Oct 1967... Beach ranges, Lagun Seca race track, shutting down the machine gun ranges when aircraft were on approach to Monterey airport. Weekends in Carmel and San Francisco. Hiipies, Peace Signs... oh yes I remember!

I remember! I was there from 85-89. 7/7th ADA. I was first in A Battery, 1st Platoon then sent to 3rd Platoon “Third Herd!” A fun time where I met many friends who I still keep in touch with on Facebook. The great weather, many trips to the Bay Area and the proximity to my home town made Ft Ord a memorable experience!

My uncle did basic training here for Vietnam and in 1985 it was my last duty station. We kept it in the family. It's such a waist today. They could use the barracks and the housing tracks to help house the homeless and give them the means to be able to get a steady job.

Well I am back in Monterey it brings a lot of memory's back and the post well you never know it was here if it was not for the WWII barracks that are still standing. I took my wife through it and told here these is were the 3rd Bde was my old unit and showed here the old hospital were my son was born. You never know it was a hospital they have a fence around it now and I can't read the sign that is out there. The old NCO club is now a community center for seaside.
