SGT Private RallyPoint Member Sarge, that article is 6 years old, in case you didn't notice.

The reason I say that is that anyone with any computer knowledge will definitely choose a 64 bit operating system over a 32. Vastly more addressable memory, and most of the disadvantages listed there are no longer pertinent, particularly the 'lack of 64 bit software' one. I can't think of a single application I can't get in 64 bit these days, though there may be some few.

64 bit.... it's twice as good as 32 bit.... :-) Sorry, couldn't resist. The Data pathway is twice the size, faster flow of data, right?

Even though most applications are still 32 bit, 64 is important if you use memory intensive applications or games. 32 bit has limitations on accessing memory and storage...

in the role of IT for a company, one would prefer a 64 BIT OS, unless one of the applications that is mission critical can only work in a 32 bit system. This means that if that computer comes with 8 GB of memory and because that built has to be done with a 32 Bit system, the amount of memory they will be able use is less then 4 GB. Meaning that will have 4 GB that computer will not be able to use. All due to that one software that can work in a 32 BIT system.
In a personal PC/laptop, If I use 6GB of Memory I would go with a 64 BIT OS because the 64 Bit will be able to use all the memory installed. If I use a 32 BIT OS then all the memory will not be used.
On the other hand if the Hardware I have can use only 2 GB max, then a 64 BIT OS will not install, leaving me with no choice but to use a 32 BIT OS.

I would have to say that a 64 bit system is the best right now... and I say right now because its only a matter of time before this conversation is about 64 or 128 bit... anyways even if you do use some programs that are 32 but still almost every time ive seen this your computer should beable to make itself work on the lower scale... either way the amount of bit has to do with processing power and how fast your CPU can access what it is currently working on. also its pretty likely your CPU is 64 bit since they have been pretty standard in consumer grade computers since the early 2000's. the bottle neck here is the os which was mostly kept at 32 bit just to avoid having errors updating drivers.

64 bit. And because it allows for more RAM functionality. I actually can't think of a reason why 32bit would be preferred.
