There are two factors here. First, are the people trying to do the right thing and save a buck or two while doing that. I'm sure the 84 widow was quoted something a lot lower than another insurance agent might have given her. All she wanted to do was the right thing and ensure things were secure when he husband passed away.

The second factor is people's creed. People are looking to make that quick buck regardless of who they might have to step on to do so. Rather than making an honest dollar, they get the quick buck and leave a path of broken promises and hurt people. They run through a community just as fast as a summer tornado in Kansas. These people are why we have such a hard time trusting others and seeking help when needed.

There's a special place for these people. I just hope the right actions are taken to take care of those that were effected by this lady's reckless disregard.

It goes to show that you need to do your homework before entering into agreements like this that are so important to your financial security. Insurance fraud is one of the oldest scams out there, so much so it was a cliché a couple of decades ago. With the advent of the internet, this type of fraud is harder, while identity theft is much, much easier than it once was.

Somehow, revoking this guy's license just doesn't quite say it. This guy did something heinous.

[Brent Henry] told us the same story about a helicopter crash and his struggles with PTSD.

Records from the United States Marine Corps show he did serve from 1994 until 2000 — but also show a bad conduct discharge. That came from a special court martial in 1998. He was accused of unauthorized absence and was demoted to private.

Records also show Henry was not serving in 2009 which is the year he claims to have been in a helicopter crash resulting in his PTSD.

[Henry] said, “What resources am I taking? I’m trying to raise awareness for guys with PTSD like myself.”
Henry also told stories about his deployments to Afghanistan. As a result he was given hundreds of dollars of clothes and hundreds of dollars for an event honoring the dishonorable fellow. Police have charged him with fraud. After he bonded out, police were called to his apartment when he threatened to harm himself. Now he faces additional charges for “reckless handling of a firearm”.

Fort Dodge, Iowa- I get emails sometimes telling me that Stolen Valor is a victim-less crime, this proves that it isn’t. Lynette Rachelle Ladd defrauded the Department of Veterans Affairs out of almost $10,000 in benefits over a year, by claiming to be a Veteran when she has never served a day in her life.

She made false statements to the United States Department of Veteran’s Affairs and fraudulently obtained free and/or subsidized healthcare benefits from the VA Medical Center located at 2419 2nd Ave. N. in Fort Dodge, Iowa. I have to assume she also turned in some type of documentation, as I have never seen the VA admit someone on just their word they were a Veteran.

The total value of the VA benefits fraudulently obtained by the Defendant was $9,431.91, and included, but was not limited to, inpatient services, outpatient services, and prescriptions.

She has never served in the military, and was not eligible to receive VA benefits. So real Veterans and the Tax payer are the victims here, and this is happening more often as people learn to forge DD214’s and other Military documents.

She was sentenced to 5 years in prison and ordered to pay back the benefits she received from the VA, so with good behavior she will be out in about 2 years. When someone commits Stolen Valor to this extent, everyone loses, including the American tax payer, and real Veterans that need the help!

Fraudulent Practices in the Second Degree is a class “D” felony carrying a maximum sentence of up to five years in prison, and the Judge gave her the max. This case was investigated by the Criminal Investigations Division of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Office of Inspector General.

L Ron Hubbard, founder of church of Scientology

JAGC sends us a link to NPR which reports on Lawrence Wright’s research of the Church of Scientology’s founder L. Ron Hubbard and his record of service in World War II for an article in the New Yorker. According to the New Yorker article;

During the Second World War, Hubbard served in the U.S. Navy, and he later wrote that he was gravely injured in battle: “Blinded with injured optic nerves and lame with physical injuries to hip and back at the end of World War II, I faced an almost nonexistent future. I was abandoned by family and friends as a supposedly hopeless cripple.” While languishing in a military hospital in Oakland, California, he said, he fully healed himself, using techniques that became the foundation of Scientology. “I had no one to help me; what I had to know I had to find out,” he wrote in an essay titled “My Philosophy.” “And it’s quite a trick studying when you cannot see.” In some editions of Hubbard’s book “The Fundamentals of Thought,” published in 1956, a note on the author says, “It is a matter of medical record that he has twice been pronounced dead.”

But, according to Wright in the NPR article, Hubbard was never wounded, nor was he the hero that he made himself out to be during the war;

“I had found evidence that Hubbard was never actually injured during the war. … And so we pressed [Tommy Davis] for evidence that there had been such injuries and [Hubbard] had been the war hero that he described,” says Wright. “Eventually, Davis sent us what is called a notice of separation — essentially discharge papers from World War II — along with some photographs of all of these medals that [Hubbard] had won. … At the same time, we finally gained access to Hubbard’s entire World War II records [through a request to the military archives] and there was no evidence that he had ever been wounded in battle or distinguished himself in any way during the war. We also found another notice of separation which was strikingly different than the one that the church had provided.”

Furthermore, says Wright, the notice of separation that the church provided was signed by a man who never existed. And two of the medals that Hubbard supposedly had won weren’t commissioned until after Hubbard left active service.

Well, that’s the first time we ever heard of any of that happening, isn’t it? Of course, Hubbard’s version of his service explained that he was an intelligence officer, so the researchers at the CoS claim that he was so secret squirrel that the government had to change his records to hide his actual activities – you know, even though the biggest secret of the war, the fact that the US had used the Enigma Machine to break German coded messages, was declassified in 1975, Hubbard’s activities are still secret.

WEATHERFORD, TX -- An alleged Navy SEAL impersonator was nabbed in Puerto Rico, according toABC affiliate WFAA-TV.

According to authorities, Carlos Luna-Gonzalez wore a Navy lieutenant junior grade uniform with a SEAL trident, a Purple Heart and jump wings. WFAA-TV says he was arrested on charges of impersonating a ranking officer and theft in a sting operation in November 2014 after he accepted a "firearm of appreciation" for his false service.

"We were going to award him with a firearm for his service," said Lone Star's Joey Blanton.

When Gonzalez accepted the rifle last year, he was arrested. Assistant District Attorney Jeff Swain explained that it was essentially theft by deception. But, shortly after that arrest, Gonzalez jumped bond and took off for Puerto Rico.

Parker County officials say he was found this week.

"They wanted to know if we would extradite. They wanted to know in 10 minutes. They got their answer in eight," Parker County Sheriff Larry Fowler told WFAA-TV. "He couldn't even shine the SEALs' boots, as far as I'm concerned."

"I don't wish him ill will ... I just want justice. (I) want him to stop posing as something he's not," said Lone Star's Joey Blanton.

Gonzalez's theft charge from 2014 was only a misdemeanor, but jumping bond on the misdemeanor is a felony.

"I'm going to bring him back - one way or the other," Sheriff Fowler said. "He picked the wrong county, I'll tell you that."

Well, that’s really strange because his records show that he was an enlisted 91C medic in the Army Reserve for three years, finishing as a sergeant E-5 and then he went to medical school then he became a battalion surgeon in the Virginia National Guard.
Dude wasn’t even in the Navy, but, you know, if you’re going to make shit up, you might as well make it all up from the git-go.

"That's a touchy subject with a lot of us vets," said Parker County Sheriff Larry Fowler on Tuesday.

From Weatherford to Puerto Rico, the long of the arm is reaching out for a man accused of impersonating a Navy SEAL for gain. News 8's Jim Douglas has more.

Sheriff Fowler asked Puerto Rico police for help. Monday night, he got word they had his man.

"They wanted to know if we would extradite. They wanted to know in 10 minutes. They got their answer in eight," Fowler grinned. "He couldn't even shine the SEALs' boots, as far as I'm concerned."

Fowler's service included duty aboard two aircraft carriers.

Gonzalez was arrested the first time in Parker County about six months ago after a Texas Ranger was tipped off about the man who was was claiming rank and honors he had not earned. Authorities arranged to have him invited to Lone Star Guns in Weatherford.

"We were going to award him with a firearm for his service," said Lone Star's Joey Blanton.

Blanton served with the Army in Afghanistan, and he's a retired Indiana state trooper. He was glad to help in the sting.

When Gonzalez accepted the rifle, he was arrested. Assistant District Attorney Jeff Swain explained that it was essentially theft by deception.

"I don't wish him ill will," Joey Blanton said. "I just want justice. [I] want him to stop posing as something he's not."

Sheriff Fowler said Gonzalez did serve a brief stint in the Navy, and received a general discharge.

The sheriff said he heard from a lot of vets who were especially angry about the SEAL trident and Purple Heart on the uniform.

The theft charge was only a misdemeanor. Jumping bond on the misdemeanor is a felony.

In the continuing saga..
I was shopping in Home Depot and a guy walked by wearing a 101st cap.
I gave him an "Airborne" greeting and we fell into talking.
The the story started about him being on a super-secret mission into Cambodia and Laos using SF and Marines as security and doing arty registration on the hill-top along the border and how he had gotten injured in a jump but could not get any medical treatment because all his records had been destroyed in the St. Louis fire. By this time my WTF-O alarms are going off - so I asked him about Currahee and he said he had no idea what Currahee was.

So here is a question you all you 101st folks.

Can you get through Ft. Campbell without hearing about Currahee?

Another bastard caught:

Jason Scaletta, aka Jason Grey, the director of Veterans Support Center of America PAWS starred in one of our posts when some of his claims came to our attention late last year – that he was a Special Forces/Ranger trained bad ass who had jumped into Afghanistan soon after 9-11-2001. He also claimed that he had been wounded a few times and that he’d been awarded the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star Medal and a 3rd award of the Combat Infantry Badge. Of course, that last one is what attracted us to him – a third award of the CIB would have meant that he had been in the Korean War, which wasn’t actually possible. That led us to Maryland court records which proved that he was locked in judicial jousting during the time he claimed that he was fighting the war against terror in Afghanistan.

Anyway, as soon as we published the story calling him out, we got legal threats from his organization, specifically George Mutter. Scaletta had somehow convinced the Military Order of the Purple Heart that his medal was legitimate, and they rode to his defense. Soon after that, we were able to convince the MOPH otherwise which launched their own investigation of his claims.

We heard earlier this week that Scaletta planned a huge media event unsealing a record of his service mailed to him from Fort Bragg with proof that we had been wrong about his lack of military service. He had invited Congressmen, the media and some other veteran organizations for the unveiling of his documentation.

Those plans were cut short yesterday when Maryland police kicked in his front door and arrested him for illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition;

Scaletta Arrest
When Maryland police had secured Mr. Scaletta, Federal officers entered the scene. It seems that Scaletta had, a few months ago, filed a claim with the Veterans’ Affairs Department using his phony DD214, ostensibly to counter our proof against him. The law enforcement officers discovered more counterfeit DD214s inside his home and on his computers – it seems that someone at Fort Bragg, NC has been selling fake DD214s to phonies for hundreds of dollars each. The LEOs claim that these were the best fake DD214s that they had ever seen. That was what Scaletta had planned to unveil at his press conference today.

It wouldn’t have worked anyway – folks at JFK Center and the Ranger Training Brigade had already confirmed that he had never attended training with their schools…and the 3rd award of his CIB was outside the realm of possibility. Court records, 61 instances, confirmed that he had abbreviated National Guard service between periods of incarceration in Maryland. So his little press conference would have fallen on it’s face anyway.

At this time, the only record of his arrest yesterday is for the weapons charges, but we’re assured that more charges are pending, including Federal charges.

If Scaletta had just conceded to us that, yes, he had lied, and yes, that he is sorry, it would have ended there. Instead, Scaletta doubled down with his lies and tried to salvage his phony story for his own selfish reasons. Now, look at what he brought down on his head.

We also have evidence that George Mutter, Scaletta’s buddy at VSCOA PAWS, tried to conspire against us with the Dutch Rudder Club – and the world’s worst lawyer, Daniel Alan Bernath. Mutter also tried to get one of our friends in trouble at his Reserve unit when the fellow had nothing to do with the investigation.

The lesson for phonies is this; when we bust you, you stay busted. We never back down, we don’t scare with threats of violence or legal jousting. Just admit that you lied, and stop doing it before your world turns into a big Scaletta.

According to folks who we’ve talked to, the whole case, the illegal activities of this career criminal was exposed with that first post on TAH and directly resulted in his arrest.

Some of our friends in the Air Force PJ community sent us this fellow Harry King who tells folks that he’s was Para-rescue in the Air Force, a “Red Beret”, he says. Just like a SEAL, he says – the first screenshot is at a dating website, the second has been edited since the PJ community started asking questions about him;

I’m pretty sure that both SEALs and PJs would take offense at his statement that PJs are the equivalent of Navy SEALs. But, he wouldn’t know that anyway;

He was an Aircraft Armament Systems Specialist for 14 months – discharged as an E-1 Airman Basic. He probably couldn’t keep up with the rigors of the Air Force corporate lifestyle.

Master GunsCasey Taylor is a medically retired Master Gunnery Sergeant from the U.S. Marine Corps. Taylor was drafted in 1968 and was immediately deployed to Vietnam. His service spanned from 1968 to 1997. During that time, Taylor was also deployed to Somalia, Yugoslavia, Bosnia, Panama and in support of Desert Storm and Desert Shield.

If his military experience isn’t enough to impress you, after retiring, Master Guns went to work in the civilian world as a district manager, overseeing wireless network designs covering six states. He also worked as a GS-15 DOD civilian from 2000-2007. You could say that Master Guns Taylor has pretty much been there, done that.

In 2007, Taylor was medically retired from government service after having surgery on his back.

“I guess three hundred and eighty-seven jumps in the Marine Corps had taken its toll on my back,” Taylor told MilitaryConnection.com.

Burl Casey Taylor; phony Vietnam veteran

Scotty sends me his work on this fellow, Burl Casey Taylor who claims that he was a Recon Marine in Vietnam and that he’s been in every conflict since Vietnam. According to the guys at SOCNET, his claims have been all over the map, but the most egregious have been that he was drafted during the Vietnam War and that he retired as a Master Gunnery Sergeant.

According to Scotty, Burl, here, was born in 1960, so, depending on when you’re listening to his stories, he was eight or ten years old when he went to Vietnam, which is totally plausible :eyeroll:. He did spend some time in the military, but he was a Multi-channel Equipment Operator in the Army and in the Marine Corps from 1979 – 1996; 6 years in the Army, 11 years in the Marines and he never heard a shot fired in anger;

He has backed off from a number of his claims since SOCNET confronted him, but the bigger lies continue as recently as this last December.

Marine_7002 sends a link to the Detroit Free Press which reports on the discussion between handwringers and bedwetters in Michigan over a memorial that includes a *gasp* “machinegun”;

Council President Jerry Aubry says he’s not opposed to the fallen soldier monument itself, but rather the prominence of the proposed location.

“I don’t think it needs to be a center point of our Central Park,” Aubry said. “The boots, the machine gun, the helmet; I understand it should be there somewhere, but I don’t think it should be right in the middle of the park.”

“Being a veteran I want to see a monument there, yes,” said Councilman Tom Nader. “I just don’t think this is the proper one.”

For decades, the upturned rifle has been used to mark where soldiers have fallen on the battlefield so they can be located by graves registration folks. The current use with boots, helmet and dog tags is common at impromptu memorial ceremonies on the battlefield.

That is not an M16 or even a machine gun, by the way. It is an M4 – it is a gas-operated, magazine-fed, selective fire, shoulder-fired rifle with a telescoping stock and 14.5 inch long barrel.

In a Sunrise, FL bar another veteran confronts a phony who was trolling the bar for chicks wearing ACUs. From the Daily Mail sent to us by Islandofmisfittoys;

In the footage, a young man is seen on camera asking the alleged fake service member, a series of questions including where he did his basic and boot camp training.

The man claims he did his basic training in Miami, to which the young man corrects him and says basic training is conducted in Fort Benning, Georgia.

I don’t encourage people to confront phonies like this, and, as you can see in the video, the volume increases on both sides as the questioning continues. But the phonies need to stop being phonies – eventually this is going to end badly for someone.

Pratt get extra points for creativity – he claims that he was in the Hitler Youth at the end of World War II and that he changed his name from Hans Macher when he emigrated here in 1946, then a few years later he claims that he joined the US Army to fight in Korea. He stayed for thirty years, rising to the rank of Master Sergeant in the Army.

I don’t know about his time in Germany, but I know a little about the Army. For example, if there was any truth to his story, he would have earned a CIB each for the Korean War and Vietnam – but his little shadow box says that he earned three CIBs. He has the United Nations Korean War Service Medal and the US Korean War Service Medal, but he’s missing the Republic of Korea War Service Medal, which goes along with the other two. There’s the Vietnam War Service medal and no campaign stars, which is odd because there were always campaigns going on there. All of those service medals should be below the bottom row.

The Department of Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency doesn’t list anyone by the name of Pratt or Macher as a Prisoner of War in Vietnam, so his tales of woe fall on deaf ears. But, it should be no surprise that he wasn’t a POW because the National Personnel Records Center says “Who?”

The Alabama State Senate has voted to increase the penalties for wearing medals and badges for tangible benefit.

The bill imposes a minimum fine of $5,000 and makes it a Class A misdemeanor for a person to falsely represent themselves as a recipient of a military decoration or medal — including, but not limited to the Purple Heart and Silver Star — in order to obtain money, property, or a tangible benefit. A similar offense with the Congressional Medal of Honor would be a Class C felony.
The Stolen Valor Act passed the Senate unanimously and is headed back to the House for consideration of the Senate’s revisions.
Meanwhile, in Delaware, they’re hard at work passing their own Stolen Valor Act to stiffen penalties, too;
Stolen valor could soon be considered a form of “criminal impersonation” in the state of Delaware. Republican State Representative Rich Collins introduced a bill that hopes to expand the current law.
This bill, identified as House Bill 80 would consider stolen valor a class A misdemeanor and would carry a minimum fine of $1,000.

We’re told the bill has “modest” bipartisan support and is currently pending action in the House Judiciary Committee.

The Wisconsin State Assembly demonstrates how seriously they’re taking the issue;

The Stolen Valor bill is one step closer to becoming law in Wisconsin. The state assembly passed the bill making it illegal to lie about military service. Anyone convicted faces up to six years in prison and $10,000 in fines.

I’m guessing we won’t see many valor thieves in Wisconsin with that much at stake. But then, they all think they’re smarter than the rest of us, anyway.

This one came from Don Shipley and it begins when 13-year-old Matthew Ott, whose mother passed away from a mysterious illness when he was only 11 months old, set up a lemonade stand to raise money for veterans. Every year, young Matthew gives the money he makes from the sweat of his brow to deserving local veterans. This past year Matthew gave his money to two families, according to the article at the link above;

This year two veterans’ families will be the beneficiaries of Matthew’s effort. To insure the families’ privacy, John Ott refers to them as “Family One” and “Family Two.” The York families were selected by the Gold Star Mothers organization or from articles in the news media.

Family One is a multiple Purple Heart Award recipient with a wife and a child. A Marine Special Forces veteran he is on 100 percent disability.

Family Two is the widow and two teen-aged sons of an Army Scout killed in Iraq.

Family One is the focus of this post. The “multiple Purple Heart…Marine Special Forces” dude is Nate Fornwalt, the forlorn-looking dude in the picture above. Apparently, he’s been spreading his bullshit for a couple of years around York, Pennsylvania. Here he is talking about his 15 years in the Marines and his time with MARSOC;

Some of his tale;

On one of those details, he was in Fallujah, riding on top of a military SUV, protected by bulletproof glass. He spotted two 155-millimeter shells, side by side, wrapped up in plastic bags on the side of the road.

“I saw them, and I knew something was wrong,” he said. “…Before I could get my mouth open, they detonated.”

He went down.

“It was just real hazy. …It was very peaceful at first. I thought I fell asleep,” he said.

He doesn’t remember how long he was down. He remembers someone punching him, telling him to get up.

He was bleeding out of his nose. His face was lacerated. He had some shrapnel through him, but he didn’t think he was hurt enough to need medical treatment at a Battalion Aid Station. He patched himself up with gauze.

Fellow soldiers in a special operations unit noticed problems. He was forgetting things, and he wasn’t the same physically. When he was on leave, family members noticed changes, too.

And he made a bloody snowman last winter “to honor veterans” and he says that he pinned one of his Purple Hearts to his creation (he claims that he was awarded three Purple Hearts).

Anyway, Don Shipley got Nate’s FOIA expedited and the NPRC says that Nate did serve 15 years in the Marines and he was an 0331 Machinegunner, but he left the Corps as an Sergeant E-5. Here’s his list of awards;

Yeah, no Purple Hearts, no MARSOC, he’s just a (possibly legitimately) sick veteran with an honorable career that he felt that he needed to piss upon by making shit up. Young Matthew probably would have given the money to him anyway, but he didn’t need to tell the kid a bunch of tall tales. A Google search turns up no less than ten articles written about his “difficult transition” to civilian life.

ABC27 reports that our buddy, Matthew Ott, a teenager who was victimized by valor thief Nate Fornwalt last year, was in the halls of his legislature yesterday as the Pennsylvania Senate passed their new Stolen Valor Act out of that body;

Not many teenagers are concerned about what’s happening at the Capitol, but 15-year-old Matthew Ott is. Matthew and his father have been fighting for Senate Bill 43 to become a law.

The stolen valor bill will toughen the penalties against those who pretend to be veterans or veterans who embellish their record for personal gain.

Unfortunately, it is something Matthew experienced first hand. He has been raising money for veterans for years and says one of them took advantage by embellishing his record to get a donation. Upset and disappointed, Matthew wanted to make a change in the law.

“I more or less talked to my dad about it to see what we could do and then that is how Senate Bill 43 came along,” said Matthew.

Senator Anthony Williams sponsored the bill and invited the family to be present for the vote Wednesday. The bill passed the senate unanimously.

So, the bill is headed to the House for a vote, and young Matt will be there for that one, too.

Matt’s dad, John, called us this morning as told us that the Stolen Valor Act will impose a penalty of two years in jail and a $5000 fine on those convicted in Pennsylvania. Of course, it comes too late to whack Nate Fornwalt, or any of the others, but it hangs over the head of those who haven’t been caught yet.

According to Breitbart, the Comedy Central Channel’s Daniel Tosh talks about the recent spate of Stolen Valor videos, many of which we’ve featured here. Tosh’s show, if you haven’t watched, usually makes fun of folks that do stupid stuff that ends up on YouTube.

In the comments of the Breibart article, Tosh takes a beating from folks who don’t appreciate his humor. But I think the segment makes fun of valor thieves, he doesn’t defend them, but your mileage may vary;

“Stolen valor — sure technically it’s still a felony, but I say those impostors are still heroes. Fake boobs don’t make me any less horny than real ones. They’re out there risking possible embarrassment just to get a free appetizer or a chick’s number. That’s courage in my book. What are the real soldiers fighting for, if not for our freedom to impersonate them? Haven’t you ever heard of dressing for the job you want?”

Once again, Scotty sends us his work on this..er…lady, Stacy Durrenberg, who claims to have been a Marine with two tours in combat, one each in Afghanistan and Iraq. She also claims that she has been wounded in combat several times, shot in each leg, shrapnel pierced her brain-housing group and took out her hearing and vision. She stepped on an IED which blew her kneecap through her leg and folded her arm back. She was a sniper and a POW for a year and, of course, she suffers from PTSD.

James Earmin Wilson; Specialized Worldwide Protection phony

Scotty sends us his work on James Earmin Wilson, the CEO and Founder of Specialized Worldwide Protection, LLC, a security company in Austin, Texas that specializes in protection worldwide, according to their website.

Of course, Mr. Wilson’s experience is extensive. According to the certificates that he could afford to buy on the internet, he was trained as a CID agent at an Army base by the Marine Corps (I guess that he’s never heard of NCIS) and he has a certificate thanking him for his service as a Delta Force.

Those are totally legit, aren’t they? Well, here’s his biography;

I like the “small arms instructor” followed by “large arms instructor”. Makes sense, right? Well, that would hardly fit on a DD214, so the Marine Corps abbreviated it all;

Four years in the Marine Corps, no deployments, no sea service, discharged as a Corporal. So he went into the Army Reserves – that service ended in 2011 and on less friendly terms than it did with the Marine Corps.

Maybe he can link up with some of our other phonies in the security business, like Jared Stern who was a Marine, too, well, when he wasn’t AWOL.

Louisville, Kentucky – Over the years we have tackled many cases, but this one was one of those that I wish I didn’t have to do. About six months ago, Robert Jones started showing up in a lot of the Veterans groups and pages on Facebook. He was always posting about his ailments and his service overseas. He befriended a lot of the high profile Veterans including Dale Comstock, Michael Schlitz, Mat Best, and myself.

He was admitted to a group called OIF/OEF Nation, which is a group for those who have served in Operation Iraqi Freedom or Enduring Freedom. He began making claims of being a Ranger, and befriended several Ranger’s in the community. He also began telling his stories of how he was always sick from CPRS(Complex Regional Pain Syndrome), and that he was always in the hospital. He complained he couldn’t find a job, and that he needed money to pay bills and other things, so of course the Veteran community stood up and began raising money for him. It is hard to tell exactly how much money was raised, but he would also post his own GoFundme’s and of course people would donate.

I had a gut feeling about him, but I let it slide and passed it off as just too many years doing this. He was always using his lost leg as a way to promote himself, his bracelets and shirts he had made through our friends at GruntStyle. I asked him one day, how he lost his leg and he told me he lost it in a job accident after he served, what bothered me is he allowed the perception to stay that he lost his leg while serving. He was a Veteran with a disability, not a disabled Veteran which means two different things. Again, I let it go as being overly cautious due to my daily dealings with fake vets.

Then, Tyler Bergseid, the creator of OIF/OEF Nation came to me and asked a question about Robert, which made me think I wasn’t being to cautious, as he too was suspect of Robert and his intentions. Tyler then brought in another admin that had also become suspicious of Robert and his fundraising, Diana Hicks. Diana also helped tremendously with this case, collecting lots of evidence.

So we began an investigation, and would come to find out that Robert was making claims of being a Ranger and telling people that he couldn’t remember a lot about being one because of his brain injury. Several Rangers jumped on board to help flush him out, we got tons of screenshots where he claims Ranger.

He even had our friends over at Grunt Style create a shirt with his image in which he profited from, once we made them aware he was a fraud they removed the shirt and have offered to replace the shirt for anyone that purchased it, with any shirt from their website. You can contact Grunt Style and send them the shirt back for your replacement.

He scammed a lot of people, using the perception that he was a wounded warrior. We got his records and confirmed he only served one month at Fort Jackson before being put out on a entry level discharge.

We setup a phone call with Robert to let him know we found out the truth, this call was attended by Tyler and Diana from OIF/OEF Nation and myself. Once confronted he tried to use names of Rangers that he thought verified him, we informed him that they knew he was a fake and were taking screenshots of the conversations. He then claimed he had memory loss from losing his leg and thought he remember being a Ranger and being in combat. He finally hung up the phone after we told him we didn’t believe that excuse.

After we went public, he posted what he considered an apology to his personal page again blaming it on his memory again. We tried to tell him that the Military community wouldn’t take kindly to his excuse after scamming thousands and the comments on his post showed the anger in the community.

Below are just a few of the photos he used to try and make his claims believable, as you can tell they are really bad Photoshop’s.
He then sent a message to us and said his mom told him he has Multiple Personality Disorder and that he would try to pay back all the money he scammed from everyone. We have tons of screenshots, photos and a recording of the conversation we had with him where we asked him to come clean that we will update on this article soon. We wanted to get this out so no one else would fall victim to his scams as he has taken thousands of dollars at this point.

Tuscaloosa Alabama- The video below was sent to us by P.J. Campbell out of Tuscaloosa, Alabama. P.J. recorded this at his place of work when this woman came in claiming to be fresh of a six month deployment.

He began recording and questioning her about her appearance in uniform, He asks her about her nose ring and flip-flops. She claims she just got off duty after being gone for six months, and that she left her boots somewhere else.

He also asks her what her MOS is, her response was that she is an E6, which is rank not an MOS.

Fort Sill, Oklahoma – A military judge has found CSM Perry T. Mcneill guilty of eight counts under Article 134 of the UCMJ, Wearing unauthorized insignia, decoration, badge, ribbon, device, or lapel buttons, and one count of making false official statements in violation of Article 107 of the UCMJ.

According to the charges he wore both the Ranger Tab and the Pathfinder Badge wrongfully and without authority on multiple occasions: on or between March 4, 2011, and Feb. 28, 2014. It also says he submitted an official record to the Centralized Selection List Board for the fiscal year Active Component and U.S. Army Reserve Active Guard Reserve Brigade/Battalion Command Sergeant Major and Key Billet Sergeant Major Board, a falsified enlisted record brief stating he had graduated from Ranger School in 1994.

The CSM was the senior enlisted leader for the 3rd Battalion, 2nd Air Defense Artillery Regiment up until his sentenced was handed down. The judge sentenced Mcneill to receive a letter of reprimand, reduction to the E-7 pay grade and forfeiture of $500 per month for 10 months.

A few months ago, LTC Gerald Green was found doing the same as this CSM, yet he was only relieved of command. Green was also wearing an unearned Ranger tab, along with an unearned Sapper Tab. Green should have also been held accountable for his actions as the CSM is being held accountable for his. This goes to show that rank does have its privileges when it comes to things of this nature, with Green only having “administrative” action taken against him instead of criminal.

I am sure this will be the end of the CSM’s career, not sure what goes through their minds thinking they will get away with wearing tabs, badges or ribbons they didn’t earn. They should know when these things go in front of the boards, they are looked at with a fine tooth comb.

As of today, his official bio on the 3-2 ADA’s site still shows the unearned tabs:
I also checked the ADA’s Chain of Command and his photo is no longer in the CSM position, my guess is he will be reassigned somewhere else to finish out his career.

Snoqualmie, Washington – A former Idaho Army National Guard Soldier has been in indicted for multiple counts of wire fraud and mail fraud, and making false statements in connection with an extensive scheme to fraudulently obtain federal and state benefits, announced Acting United States Attorney Annette L. Hayes.

According to the indictment, Wright made a variety of false claims in his scheme to defraud the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Social Security Administration, and the Washington State Department of Employment Security. False statements also were made to the Department of Commerce, the Office of Personnel Management, the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services and the U.S. Army.

The nine count indictment charges schemes to commit both wire fraud and mail fraud, making false statements to the Army, and making a false statement to the U.S. Department of Commerce.

At the height of the fraud, Wright and his sister were receiving $10,341 a month in undeserved government benefits, according to the indictment. They did so while Wright worked, coached basketball and ran for public office. Wright claimed to have suffered traumatic brain injury during an Aug. 30, 2005, rocket attack while he was serving in Iraq as a lieutenant with the Idaho National Guard. Wright ultimately received a Combat Action Badge, and a Purple Heart. Wright included a photograph of a Humvee destroyed in another attack, which he claimed was his vehicle, according to the indictment. Years passed before Wright’s lobbying won out; he was awarded a Purple Heart in March 2011.

In truth, Wright was not injured in the attack, which didn’t damage any property or cause casualties, prosecutors claim. Nonetheless, Wright was awarded a host of benefits meant to assist wounded veterans and disabled Americans. “Wright falsely claimed that his alleged combat related injuries caused a range of physical limitations to include, being ‘bedridden,’ unable to function in public, easily confused, unable to tie his shoes, in need of a full-time caregiver in his home,” prosecutors claimed to the grand jury. Wright hired his sister, Karen Bevens, as his caretaker; Bevens, a 43-year-old Duvall resident, now faces a single fraud count.
While claiming to be entirely unable to work, Wright was also collecting unemployment benefits from Washington state, prosecutors said in court papers. To receive unemployment payments, Wright is alleged to have faked job applications. In truth, Wright was “seemingly unencumbered by any disability or infirmity,” according to the indictment. He coached high school basketball, chaired the city of Snoqualmie planning commission, served in community organizations and belonged to a country club.

Prosecutors alleged that the scheme dated to 2005, when there was a small explosion about 100 yards from where Wright and other soldiers were standing. Days later, Wright requested that he be awarded a “combat action badge,” though he noted in his written account that there was no damage or casualties from the blast.

During the next several months, he continued to press for the badge — changing the story to say that he had come under enemy rocket attack, prosecutors said. “Darryl Lee Wright falsely stated that he was ‘violently thrown and knocked unconscious from the percussion of the rockets’ impact,’ ” the indictment said.

In response to a request for comment, Wright wrote Jan. 30, “Yesterday, we contested all charges.” He referred additional questions to his attorney, Chris Black. If Wright is found guilty, he could face a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison, and a fine of $250,000. Wright is listed as Chief Development Officer of Trefoil Consulting in the Snoqualmie Valley Chamber of Commerce business directory.

His trial is scheduled for March 31, said Emily Langlie, spokesperson for the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

So again we are presented with another case of Stolen Valor where it has cost the taxpayer’s almost a quarter of a million dollars in fraudulent benefits. This was netting them more money per month than most people make who work full-time jobs, but we hear people saying Stolen Valor is a victimless crime. The victims here are not only the taxpayers, but Veterans that actually need these benefits and can’t get them!

We will keep you updated on the trial, and how it proceeds. We are also working on getting his records and a copy of the complete indictment.

States of America; we fought for the "Land of the Free and the

mundane things as patriotism and voting. Many of those who fell
for the "Great Lie" in 2008 are now having buyer's remorse. With
all the education we gave you, you didn't have sense enough to see
through the lies and instead drank the 'Kool-Aid.' Now you're
paying the price and complaining about it. No jobs, lost
mortgages, higher taxes, and less freedom.

This is what you voted for and this is what you got. We entrusted
you with the Torch of Liberty and you traded it for a paycheck and
a fancy house.

Well, don't worry youngsters, the Grey-Haired Brigade is here, and
in 2016 we are going to take back our nation.

We may drive a little slower than you would like but we get where
we're going, and in 2016 we're going to the polls by the
millions.

This land does not belong to the man in the White House nor to the
likes of Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, and Eric Holder. It
belongs to "We the People" and "We the People" plan to reclaim our
land and our freedom. We hope this time you will do a better job
of preserving it and passing it along to our grandchildren. So the
next time you have the chance to say the Pledge of Allegiance,
Stand up, put your hand over your heart, honor our country, and
thank God for the old geezers of the "Grey-Haired Brigade."

Just to keep my audience updated on Wings over Wendy’s, I wanted to tip my readers off to a Daily News article written by Dennis McCarthy:

“The party starts at about 9 every Monday morning at Wendy’s restaurant in West Hills, and ends around 11 a.m. The vets finish their last cup of coffee, tell their last joke, and head for the exits to make room for the lunch crowd starting to wander in.

“See you next week,” they say, shaking hands. Drive safe.

No one passing them in the parking lot seems to have any idea who these men are, because if they did they’d probably stop and thank them.

They certainly deserve it. When this country asked them to leave their families and help us out of some tight spots around the world, they did.

World War II, Korea, Vietnam.

Most of them were pilots, navigators and bombardiers. They call themselves “Wings Over Wendy’s” and a more colorful, down-to-earth bunch of people you’re not going to find.

When I walked in to talk to them Monday, the raffle winners were just being announced. The prizes included a pack of 10 ballpoint pens, two small sacks of oranges from somebody’s backyard tree, and a videotape of “All Quiet on the Western Front.”

Beautiful.

“Crash” Blechman, Ed Figueroa, Mickey Epstein and a handful of other aviation veterans came up with the idea of a weekly Monday morning get together at Wendy’s about nine years ago. Today, the group has 140 members.

Crash, who died last year, earned his dubious nickname after crashing five Navy fighter planes during his military career.

He always joked that the Japanese acknowledged him as one of their aces.Laughs are a big part of this exclusive club. War grudges are hard to keep when one of your former members flew for the German Luftwaffe.

He told Figueroa he knew the war in Europe was almost over when he took off one day with 40 other Luftwaffe pilots and were met by 1,200 American planes.

“We never imagined when we started Wings Over Wendy’s that it would grow this big,” Figueroa said Monday, looking around the packed room.

Sitting a few feet away from the former B-26 gunner, 89-year-old Clyde East – the most decorated combat pilot in the room – sat with his young granddaughter.

He felt it was important that she have the chance to be here with him and meet some of these men, said East, a quiet, unassuming man.

The great ones usually are. East flew more than 200 combat missions in World War II and another 100 combat missions in Korea during his 25 years of service.

He was awarded dozens of war medals, including the Silver Star and the Distinguished Flying Cross, and that was just from our government.

He was also decorated by the governments of England, France, and Belgium. In 1955, Col. East made the Guiness Book of World Records for the highest number of combat medals up to that time.

And on Monday morning – holding his granddaughter’s hand – this incredible old war hero walked to his parked car without getting a second look.

Across town, Lindsay Lohan walked out of jail and back into the headlines.”

Robert Mark Charles Hofer; another phony PJ

Our friends in the Air Force PJ community send us their work on this fellow Robert Hofer who claims to be a PJ and a pilot. You can see on his uniform in the picture above that he also thinks his service earned him a Distinguished Flying Cross, a Bronze Star medal with a Valor device, a Purple Heart and an Army Commendation Medal. There’s a set of Air Force Air Crew wings, Jumpmaster wings and a Combat Infantry Badge, too. This came from his cubicle wall;

Jordan Lusk; cop arrested for forged military records

The Corpus Christi Caller Times reports that Jordan Lusk, an Aransas Pass police officer was arrested last night for altering his military records from the Navy to reflect training that he didn’t take;

Jordan Timothy Lusk is accused of providing the police department with forms that claimed he received specialized training and service recognitions while he was in the Navy. Lusk was selected for the department’s dive team in part because of the experience reflected in the documents, the release states.

Lusk was booked in the San Patricio County Jail on suspicion of forgery of a government document, a third degree felony. He had not yet appeared before a judge early Thursday and did not have a bail amount set.

According to the article, Lusk admitted to the police chief that he had lied just prior to his arrest, but that the Naval Criminal Investigative Service had participated in the investigation that ultimately led to his admission.

Anthony Kolat; phony Beirut Marine

Scotty sends us his work on this Anthony Kolat fellow who claims that he was in Beirut when Hezbollah bombed the barracks there on October 23, 1983 and that he earned a Purple Heart there.

Kolat, who was a combat engineer with the 1st Battalion, 8th Marines, 24th Marine Amphibious Unit, recalled being on a bulldozer and hearing sirens shortly after seeing and hearing the explosion. A Condition Red, the highest-alert level, was issued, and “all hell broke loose,” he said.

“It was chaos. We couldn’t leave our bulldozers until we had the all-clear four hours later,” added Kolat, who arrived in Beirut in late September 1983 as part of a peacekeeping mission.

Kolat shared many recollections Wednesday at the Eat ’n’ Park Diner, South Avenue, Boardman. He also brought a Good Conduct certificate he was awarded, several photographs taken in Beirut after the bombing and various military artifacts that survived a fire at his residence shortly after he left the Marines in 1988.

Kolat said he received a Purple Heart for trying to find as many people as possible after the blast and ensuring no one was left behind.

Nevertheless, Kolat continued, he was doing a job and doesn’t consider himself a hero. The true heroes are those who made the ultimate sacrifice serving their country — including the 44 passengers and crew of United Flight 93 who fought four hijackers Sept. 11, 2001, before crashing near Shanksville, Pa.

For a while after the attack on the barracks, Kolat said, he was able to deal with the memories. About seven years later, however, the past suddenly hit him, causing sleep problems, among other things, he said.

Kolat, a 1978 North High School graduate, said he copes with the memories of that day through his faith as well as being a member of New Life Church in Poland.

Don’t worry, Mister Kolat, I don’t consider you a hero – especially since the Purple Heart isn’t awarded for meritorious service. But, hey, you’ve got that religion thing to hide behind. According to his records, Mister Kolat had left the active service a year and two months before the Marine Barracks were bombed in Beirut;

Well, at least he didn’t invade Grenada after that. But, who knows, there’s still time to add another chapter.

The good folks at Professional Soldiers send us their work on Michael Conley. Next month, Mr Conley will be the guest speaker at a “Welcome Home” event for Vietnam veterans in Bedford, Indiana;

“Conley is probably the most decorated Vietnam veteran in Lawrence County, earning two bronze and two silver stars and a purple heart,” Sorrells says. “He also was in the U.S. Army Special Forces and a Mountain Ranger and was inducted into the Mountain Ranger Hall of Fame.”

I was curious about the Mountain Ranger Hall of Fame and couldn’t find it, but I found this story of humble old Michael Conley;

After more than 40 years of military service, Canton resident and retired 1st Sgt. Michael Conley said he’s honored to be nominated for the U.S. Mountain Ranger Hall of Fame.

Conley, 66, of Canton, joined the U.S. Army when he was 17 years old, in 1966, and retired 42 years later with 41 medals and awards.

“I am so humbled,” Conley said. “I was a solider and just tried to do a good job.”

In Vietnam in 1967, Conley was said to have pulled a solider from an exploding helicopter, earning him his first Soldier’s Medal, according to the nomination letter.

In 1968, he won a Bronze Medal for saving another life during what was called the “Battle on Bloody Ridge.”

Later, Conley would travel to the mountains of Afghanistan and Iraq and spent time in one of the most dangerous areas of the Sunni triangle, known as the “Triangle of Death.”

Conley retired five years ago, and is now being considered for the 2015 Ranger Hall of Fame induction, he said, which is set to happen around July 2015.

The newspapers love him apparently, here’s an article from the Cherokee Ledger-News;

Recounting his first tour from 1967-1968, he read a postcard he sent to family back home, telling them he’d make it home for the holidays from Fort Campbell, Ken. to Bedford, Ind. where he grew up, but in reality, he was headed for Vietnam.

When he got there, he received his first taste of tragedy, losing soldiers who fought alongside him.

In the first year, he was involved in the Battle of Hamburger Hill, and later, the Tet Offensive.

“We were headed to the Valley of Death,” he said. “We got the crap beat out of us, day after day, until after 13 days,
we took the hill.”

During the Tet Offensive, his company was overrun four times in one night. As the night began, they had 100 men still alive. That number would dwindle to 20 by sunrise.

“I was 18 years old, picking up a handset, making decisions,” he said, pausing to reflect. “Then, they made me a sergeant, and I had to start all over again.”

He received a field grade promotion in May 1968, and also was awarded a soldier’s medal for saving a man’s life.

By that time, he’d already been given a purple heart and a bronze star.

The soldier’s medal was earned when he saved a man from an observation post in the middle of the night and crawled him back to safety after the enemy forces retreated. That battle, Conley said, became the cornerstone of his military career.

“From there on, something happened to me,” he said. “I began to believe I was going to live to be 101 years old. I’d done lived through 10 months of this, you haven’t killed me, and I’m not going to get killed.”

The Battle of Hamburger Hill happened in May 1969, Conley was at Fort Bragg – he left Vietnam in July, 1968 – of course, that also means that he missed the Battle of Bloody Ridge in March & April 1969. You’ll notice on his 2-1 that someone lined through the “Wheeled Vehicle mechanic” and wrote in “Rifleman”. Before and after his time in Vietnam, he was a mechanic, which indicates some sort of malfeasance (remember that we used to hand-carry our records to the next duty station in the good old days).

Ok folks, I was chastised by a RP member for posting this next faker. I wrote to "This Ain't Hell But It's Close" web master who referred this subject to the person who investigates these claims of Phonies and Stolen Valor. This is the email I sent and the replies. I'm posting this person again because of the answer I received back.

Whomever is telling you this is full of hot air. The records clearly show that Jones was never a Special Forces Delta Operator. And his ribbons and medals also show that he wasn't involved in as many campaigns that he claims.

Phony financial adviser in Killeen

The Securities and Exchange Commission warns folks in the Killeen/Fort Hood area that there is a thief at work there under the guise of a financial adviser. He goes by the name of Leroy Brown, Junior and according to the article, he a former soldier;

[T]he latest pretend adviser to emerge, Leroy Brown Jr., may win a grand prize for lying, in large part because of his focus on members of the military.

According to a complaint filed by the Securities and Exchange Commission this month, Mr. Brown, who resides in Killeen, Texas, home to the giant Fort Hood military installation, since January 2014 has been soliciting current and former members of the U.S. armed forces to invest their money with him and his company, LB Stocks and Trades Advice. He is a veteran and was in the Army for 12 years, from 2001 to July 2013, according to the SEC.

According to the article, Brown isn’t registered with the National Association of Security Dealers or the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority. His companies, LB Securities and LB Capital Management are frauds, too. Apparently, he offers “memberships” to his companies and then deposits your checks into his checking account. In order to sell things on a military post, sales people must be registered with the local command and they should have a piece of paper to prove it, if asked.

Aside from the immediate danger of losing a few hundreds bucks to this fraud, he’ll also make young soldiers suspicious of all investment advisers. That’s especially important now that Congress wants to change the retirement system and personal savings becomes more important to careerists since the pensions won’t be there.

I’ve been reading about this guy for a few weeks now – I don’t know why they haven’t busted him yet

A senior policeman, who also happens to be a 20 plus year veteran of the Australian Armed Forces, encountered a man dressed as a soldier in a McDonald’s in Robina, Australia.
Immediately the policemen noticed discrepancies in the wear and appearance of the supposed soldier’s uniform. He wore patches on the wrong side, outdated badges, and the wrong color beret.

The 41-year-old man failed to produce a military ID, but claimed he was a Navy diver for seven years, and that he was in the process of discharging from the Army.

A brief investigation discovered that he had never served in the Navy, and was only an Army recruit for 2 months before being discharged almost a year ago. The man’s uniform was taken, and he was charged with impersonating a Commonwealth Officer. He faces a possible two years in jail.

The crime was committed the day before Anzac Day, a national day of recognition for veterans and fallen service members. ~Will

Keith Chandler back in the news

Last year we wrote about this Keith Chandler fellow who had forged his military documents in order to get Purple Heart license plates that he didn’t earn during his brief and tumultuous career in the Army. Well, he finished his 90 days in jail, I guess, but now he faces having his five years of probation vacated, so he’s looking at six years as a guest of the state;
Chandler, who was working for a roofing company, approached the Crossroads Community Church and told them they needed a new roof.

When the church pastor told Chandler their insurance company would not accept the $20,000 claim, police said Chandler called the insurance company claiming to be a maintenance man for the church and submitted the claim himself. Police said Chandler also signed the pastor’s name on the contract in order to perform the work.

“He actually forged a piece of paperwork and he was making a claim on his own, acting on behalf of them and he had no business doing that,” Madison Towship Police Det. Elizabeth Kirk said.

The pastor helped police set up a sting to catch Chandler in action and police arrested Chandler when he showed up to do some work on the roof.

Stolen Valor doesn’t happen in a vacuum. They’re always guilty of something else besides a forged document or undeserved medals – it’s all part of the pathology.

If anyone knows this guy and knows the allegations aren't true, let me know.

Mary sends us a link to the story of Gregory Allen, a fellow in California who reportedly does a lot of good work for veterans as president of the Marin chapter of the Military Officers Association of America. According to the Marin Independent Journal, he has claimed to be two-tour 1st Lieutenant Vietnam veteran. Looking at the picture of him above, he claims that he was SCUBA-qualified, parachute-qualified, he has two Navy Marine Corps Medals (which are awarded for heroism not against an armed enemy), a Bronze Star Medal, two Purple Heart Medals, a Navy Marine Corps Commendation Medal, the Navy Marine Corps Achievement Medal among some other stuff, including Vietnam service awards.

The Journal says none of that is true;

However, “Two public affairs officers from the Western Recruiting Region did an investigation and were unable to find any record of him serving in the Marine Corps,” said Sgt. Alfred Lopez, public affairs director for the Recruiting Station San Francisco for the U.S. Marine Corps.

“This is conclusive that he has not served (in the Marines),” Lopez said.
“I believe the only records of him serving in any military capacity were of a short enlistment in the Navy” for less than a year, with a medical discharge, Lopez said. He declined to elaborate.

Of course, Allen isn’t going to admit that he has been lying for more than 10 years;

Asked Thursday, “Did you serve in the Marine Corps?” Allen responded, “I’m not going to say anything. I’m going to let the lawyer answer these questions. We have some things going on we have to be sure of.”

Allen would not give his attorney’s name or contact information, and though he said the lawyer would contact the Independent Journal for an interview, no such contact was made.

Asked if he could furnish a copy of his DD-214, an official document of military service, Allen said he would supply it when he receives it.

“All the accusations brought forth, we will aggressively respond. There is more to what happens as to why this began in the first place,” he said, though he would not elaborate.

So, he’s saying that he doesn’t have a copy of his DD214, so how did he join the MOAA and become president of his local chapter? Everyone speaks highly of his work with youths who needed his mentoring to succeed when they went to basic training. As we’ve seen, these guys are always guilty of something else besides stealing honor for wearing awards they never earned and since he’s worked with youngsters, I’d look into that if I were a police officer.

Killeen Texas – Several days ago we were sent a story about Daniel Rosales out of Killeen, Texas. Rosales was sentenced to two years in federal prison for stealing money from U.S. Army soldiers though a fraudulent loan scam.

In addition to the prison term, United States District Judge Walter S. Smith, Jr. ordered that Rosales pay $28,180 restitution to his victims and be placed on supervised release for a period of five years after completing her prison term.

On September 4, 2014, Rosales pleaded guilty to one count of false statement on loan or credit application. By pleading guilty, Rosales admitted that in May 2013, he posed as a Sergeant in the First Cavalry Unit at Fort Hood to befriend new Army enlistees and encourage them to apply for signature loans at area banks in order to build up their credit.

Rosales further admitted to instructing them to place false residential and marital status information on loan applications in order to increase the loan amount enlistees could receive from the institution. After the loans were obtained and the checks cashed, Rosales insisted on retaining the majority of the loan proceeds, in his words, “for safekeeping.”

We began looking into this as we were wondering how this guy knew so much about the Army and pretend to be an NCO and fool so many Soldiers. Well it turns out Rosales did serve in the Army for a very short time before becoming yellow and Deserting.

Catfishes Women Online By Pretending To Be A Marine And Cop

Crawford County, Michigan – According to authorities, 20 year old Ron Vradenburg pretended to be a Michigan State Police undercover officer and a Marine on social media, taking thousands of dollars from young women. He created an online persona a Veteran named Josh Horvath on Facebook in the summer of 2014. He did this by using a picture he found, and telling women online that he needed money to help fund his undercover operation.

“The case involves somebody catfishing, is the term that’s out there on social media,” Detective Lieutenant Jeff Keister, Michigan State Police STING unit commander, said. “This person created an online identity.” He took more than $10,000 from unsuspecting victims during his scheme, and he would pretend to be his fake person’s cousin when he met people in person but It wasn’t until one of those victims came to Ayer’s office and asked about this undercover operation, only to find that Ayers never heard of a Josh Horvath, prompting investigators to track down Vradenburg.

“Be aware of who you’re dealing with on social media sites,” Ayers said. “In general, who you’re talking to, texting, you never know who’s on the other end of the line.”

“We want to let victims know not to be embarrassed to come forward,” Ayers said. “Anybody can get scammed or conned at any time. There’s nothing to be embarrassed about. But, if anybody’s had any contact with Mr. Vradenburg who is posed as Mr. Horvath or Josh Horvath on Facebook, we urge those people to come forward.”

He is currently in the Crawford County Jail on charges of computer to commit a crime, false pretenses, and impersonating a police officer. Ayers and Lt. Keister ask if there are any more victims, to come forward and call the prosecutor’s office directly at [login to see] .

Well, the National Personnel Records Center doesn’t see his career that way;

Yeah, with a whole year in the Navy, he got out as a Seaman Recruit – an E-1 E-3. So that’s not much different than being a SEAL with more than 30 years of service, is it?

I think that JCOS in his profile means that he was one of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, not the Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC) that he intended. I know all of those acronyms can be confusing, John, some of us had to spend more than a year in service to get them all straight in our heads.

Want To Lie About Deploying To Get a Lighter Sentence? Not With This Judge

Allentown, Pennsylvania – David Norman Boyd, 27, of Allentown P.A., who was being sentenced for crashing his vehicle while intoxicated, told Judge Jennifer Sletvold that he was a Soldier and about to be deployed to Afghanistan.

Judge Sletvold then decided to give him a two to seven-day sentence so he could deploy. But when he couldn’t provide a copy of his deployment orders, his unit, nor the name of his commander to the Probation officer, his lie unraveled.

According to the Daily Call:

“I don’t know how he could possibly believe he could get away with it,” Senior Judge Leonard Zito said Friday as Boyd faced sentencing for perjury. “But you know, the sign said, ‘Thin ice,’ and Mr. Boyd skated right past it.”

For the felony to which he previously pleaded guilty, the 27-year-old Boyd will serve three to six months in Northampton County Prison and two years of probation, Zito decided. He’ll also have to do 100 hours of community service, preferably at a military billet or something similar, Zito said.
The sentence came as defense attorney Philip Lauer said his client has already spent 65 days in jail under the drunken-driving charge, given the 30-day to six-month sentence Sletvold handed him after his lies were discovered, and a probation violation that occurred after his release.
In March 2014, Boyd was facing a mandatory-minimum sentence of just two days in jail for first-offense drunken driving when he told his tale to Sletvold. But as his story unraveled, she vacated his original sentence and asked the district attorney’s office to investigate Boyd for perjury.

According to court records, Boyd crashed his car early Dec. 5, 2012, into a light pole at St. John and Madison streets on Easton’s South Side. The wreck snapped the pole and also damaged a street sign and a retaining wall, police said.

Lauer said that while his client didn’t serve overseas in several theatres, as he had claimed to Sletvold, Boyd was briefly a member of the Army. From July 2011 to May 2012, Boyd completed basic training and was undergoing individual training when he injured himself, leading to him being honorably discharged, Lauer said.

“I deeply regret even having this situation happen,” Boyd apologized to Zito. “I regret it to this day.”

I would love to know where his community service will be, not sure what installation is closest to where he lives. I haven’t pulled this guys record to know if what the Defense attorney said concerning the discharge is true or not.

I guess he thought the Judge wouldn’t want proof of his deployment? Well now he has a perjury charge, and goes to show it doesn’t pay to lie to the judge!

NANTICOKE, Maryland – Our colleague Jonn over at thisainthell sends us his work on one Jason Matthew Scaletta. Jonn outed him last year for claiming medals and tabs he never earned. He claimed he was Special Forces qualified and had earned the Ranger tab. He also claimed two Bronze Stars with Valor, a Purple Heart, and three CIB’s among other awards. He also claims to have PTSD and a TBI received in combat from shrapnel to the head. He was the director of an organization called VSCOAPAWS, an organization that claims to train service dogs, while I don’t know much about the organization itself; I know plenty about Mr. Scaletta. His bio was posted to VSCOAPAWS website, which has since been removed, a screenshot was taken before hand.

“I enlisted into the U.S. Army Maryland National Guard in 1998 at the age of 17 because I graduated a year early. I was one of the 200 Rangers that parachuted into Afghanistan in Oct, 2001. left the United States Army as an E-6 E-7 promotable. During my time in the service I was awarded the Bronze star with Valor. The purple heart, combat infantry badge 3rd award and Airborne jump wings with 2 combat jump stars. My time in the service has left me with P.T.S.D and a Traumatic Brain Injury.

My service dog Sophie was the inspiration for this program and she continues to train with the other dogs. Its the belief that the humane society and other animal rescue agencies have a lot of good animals who could really be a good friend to someone who needs it. The veteran gets job skills, the recipient of the dog gets a new best friend for life and the dog gets some new skills, a new best friend and a forever home.”

He claims to have jumped into Afghanistan among 200 other Rangers in October of 2001 during Operation Rhino, not sure how he did that when at that time he was busy uttering bad checks. He was sentenced to confinement for six months for these charges.

He said he served on Active Duty from 1998 until 2007, but during this time he seems to have had more that 40 incidents with the law. He also reached out for some companionship when he was a ward of the state, not sure how he was serving his country and serving time in prison simultaneously.

After he got out of prison, he became the director of that VSCOA Paws organization, soon after Jonn at thisainhell became aware of his claims and started researching his background. Jonn found out that Scaletta did serve, but for a very short period of time. According to his official military records he served less than five years and got put out as an E1 (PVT), I am sure that had something to do with all the law breaking he was doing.

Once he was outed as a poser, Jonn began getting threats from others in the organization that Scale Ta was in charge of. They were claiming that they had seen his 214 and he was not lying, that his records were wrong. The first thing we think of in situations like this is that he had pulled the wool over someone’s eyes, or faked a DD214. Jonn believed the latter, and he wouldn’t know how right he was until yesterday. Jonn was informed that the Feds had broken down Scaletta’s door and arrested him for illegal possession of firearms and ammo. But that was just the tip of the iceberg; he was also told that the Feds had found multiple fake 214’s. One officer said it was some of the best forgeries they had ever seen, and that they had actually been purchased from someone outside of Fort. Bragg for several hundred dollars.

Jonn tells us Scaletta had a press conference scheduled for today to prove the he(Jonn) was wrong and planned on presenting these 214’s as proof:

“When Maryland police secured Mr. Scaletta, Federal officers entered the scene. It seems that Scaletta had, a few months ago, filed a claim with the Veterans’ Affairs Department using his phony 214, ostensibly to counter our proof against him. The law enforcement officers discovered more counterfeit DD214s inside his home and on his computers – it seems that someone at Fort Bragg, NC has been selling fake DD214s to phonies for hundreds of dollars each. The LEOs claim that these were the best fake DD214s that they had ever seen. That was what Scaletta had planned to unveil at his press conference today.

So now not only do we have posers committing these crimes like Scaletta, but we have others forging a federal document to help them commit these crimes. Below is the arrest on Scaletta, along with one of the fake DD214’s.

As you can see above, the 214 forgery is a really good one! It would take someone with a very good eye who knows a 214 well to know it was a forgery. He also added the “Intelligence Star” to that DD214, the Intelligence Star is a VERY rare award given by the Central Intelligence Agency to its officers for “voluntary acts of performed under hazardous conditions or for outstanding achievements or services rendered with distinction under conditions of grave risk”.

This is the second-highest in the Central Intelligence Agency after only the Distinguished Intelligence Cross, and is analogous to the Silver Star, the US military award for extraordinary heroism in combat. Only a few dozen people have received this award (most posthumously), making it one of the rarest valor awards issued by the US government.

Green In His Official DA Photo Wearing Tabs He Never Earned

Fort Benning Georgia – Several months ago an investigation was opened by the Army into LTC. Gerald Green for possibly wearing tabs he hadn’t earned. Green took command of the Army National Guard Warrior Training Center in July of 2014, in October of that year it was brought out that he may have been wearing accolades he never earned.

According to Army Times:

Because actions taken against Lt. Col. Gerald H. Green III were “administrative and not criminal in nature,” a Benning spokesman would not discuss details of the investigation. Col. Patrick Donahoe, chief of staff of the Benning-based Maneuver Center of Excellence, said in late October that Green, who took command of the Army National Guard Warrior Training Center in July, was not authorized to wear the Ranger and Sapper tabs that appear in his official photo and in other images of him in uniform.

The WTC includes the Ranger Training Assessment Course, a requirement for National Guard soldiers who wish to become Rangers, according to the RTAC website.

Benning spokesman Gary Jones would not comment on other findings from the investigation, including whether Green wore other unearned decorations. Green is authorized to wear a Bronze Star Medal among several other honors, including three awards of the Meritorious Service Medal and campaign medals from Iraq and Kosovo, according to personnel information provided by Jones to Army Times on Tuesday.

Preliminary findings from the investigation into Green provided “enough evidence of misconduct to warrant [MCoE commanding general] Maj. Gen. [Scott] Miller relieving him from command,” Donahoe said in October. The full investigation concluded in early November, Jones said, with administrative actions related to the investigation wrapping up later that month.

Thomas Siter took over the WTC after Green’s dismissal and will remain in charge until mid-January, when a new commander is slated to take over, Jones said. Siter then will return to his duties as WTC director.

I have to wonder why he wasn’t brought up on charges under the UCMJ, specifically Article 134, unauthorized insignia which states:

Elements.
(1) That the accused wore a certain insignia, decoration, badge, ribbon, device, or lapel button upon the accused’s uniform or civilian clothing;

(2) That the accused was not authorized to wear the item;

(3) That the wearing was wrongful; and

(4) That, under the circumstances, the conduct of the accused was to the prejudice of good order and discipline in the armed forces or was of a nature to bring discredit upon the armed forces.

Maximum punishment.

Bad-conduct discharge, forfeiture of all pay and allowances, and confinement for 6 months.

Back in 2011, CSM Stoney Crump was charged and found guilty for wearing a myriad of awards he didn’t earn and was later sentenced to six months in prison and reduced to SSG. I can only speculate about why they only relieved this officer of command and didn’t bring him up on charges, as I haven’t seen the investigation.

Just goes to show, Stolen Valor not only happens in the civilian world, but also among-st our own ranks.

About a week ago we exposed Michael Cipriani for posing as a commissioned officer at the Baltimore Washington Airport. After we posted this video, we began getting emails from a person name Kelsie Hoover, Kelsie claimed that it was her in the video and that she used her brothers driver’s license.

She told us she was a student at Baylor university in Texas, and that her, along with her classmates were filming a short film for a class project in which a female impersonates her brother in order to join MOS’s in the Army that are currently closed to women so that she can be on the front lines.

The email she was sending from ended in Baylor.edu, so we believed she could have been telling us the truth. She then sent us her driver’s license as proof that she was Kelsie and that she and her brother resembled each other. We looked over the ID, and told her to have Michael reach out to us via email.

We began corresponding with Michael, who gave us the story that he allowed his sister to use his ID for still shots in this movie, and that he never thought his sister would actually use his ID in the way she did. Michael was emailing us from his work email, Kids First Reno. We also corresponded with Michaels wife, whom told us how bad her sister-in-law was and that if she didn’t send an apology that they would go and file a police report on Kelsie for use of the ID.

Below is a photo of Kelsie before she became a male, and the friend is her current wife.

Most of the email conversation with Kelsie can be viewed below in the original update, including the apology letter. So after we posted the update to the article, stating that Michael had his identity taken by his sister along with all the correspondence, we got an anonymous tip that would again send this investigation in a different direction.

They told us that Kelsie and Michael were actually one and the same, that Kelsie was undergoing Gender Re-assignment Surgery, and that she had tried to get her name legally changed last year to Adrian Michael Luna. They also said she was a con-artist and would also use a wheelchair and pretend to be disabled to get money from people. They asked if she had a wheelchair nearby during the confrontation at the airport. As you can imagine this was almost as unbelievable as the original story, so we began digging, and sure enough we found court documents where Kelsie had tried to have her name changed to Michael Luna. (These can be found by searching the probate court records for Stark County, Ohio)

We reached out to the Veteran that recorded the video, and he confirmed that there was a wheelchair near her, but he didn’t think it was hers. He also stated that after the recording stopped, she claimed to have been shot in Afghanistan. We are told Kelsie uses this wheelchair for her con games.

The anonymous tipster also informed us that she was wanted out of Hewitt, Texas. We sent an email to the Chief out of Hewitt and also to Baylor to ensure she wasn’t still enrolled. Baylor confirmed that she was no longer a student, and hadn’t been for some time. They also told us no such project was taking place with the student body.

Hewitt Investigators also confirmed a Felony warrant existed, so we began working with them to have her arrested. Not only had she impersonated a Soldier, she did it while presenting a false ID, which brings up several new questions.

Since she lied about filming a student project, and presented a false ID, and was wearing the uniform of a Commissioned Officer in the U.S. Army, did she use the fake ID to board the plane at the airport? Did she use the uniform to gain anything of value? Since now we know she lied about having a brother named Michael, lied about attending Baylor I am sure there is something she was trying to hide amid-st this elaborate ruse.

I have worked Stolen Valor cases for years, and this is the most elaborate con game I have ever seen, she had me duped for a minute, I will give her that. But when we smell smoke, we keep digging, because surely a fire is nearby. Kelsie’s ruse is almost over, she was so scared that her fake persona would be uncovered, that she would go to any lengths to keep it undercover. Well Kelsie, your cover is blown, you had us fooled for a moment but your days of conning people and stealing identities is almost over.

We have turned over all our evidence to Law Enforcement, and your days of lying, stealing and cheating are coming to a close. We will update this story as soon as we get word she has been placed in silver bracelets. (Video is at the bottom of this article)

UPDATE: 2015 March 01(Below is where Kelsie duped us with fake emails from her “brother” Michael, who doesn’t exist)

A few hours after we posted this story(original below this update), we got an email from someone by the name of Kelsie Hoover. Kelsie told us that it was her in the video from the Baltimore Airport, and that she was in costume for a movie she was making for her college class. I found this very bizarre, as the person in the video appeared to be a male, and they showed a valid Nevada Driver’s license at the end of the video which we used to verify the identity of the person. Not only that, but they accepted thanks from the Veteran and continued to pretend to be a real Commissioned Officer. Her explanation about why she did this is below.

We responded to her, and asked how that could even be possible. She told us the ID she used was a “Prop” and wasn’t real. We told her we verified it was real, the address was real, and the person actually existed and the picture also looked like the person in the video.

She then told us that her brother allowed her to use his ID for the movie, she sent us a copy of her ID as well. We were very skeptical about this at first, as this was very bizarre and the Driver’s License presented as ID at the end of the video matched the person. So not only do we have a case of someone acting like they are a commissioned officer, now we have a case of stolen identity, below is some of the email traffic.

After the above conversation, Michael and his wife reached out to us to explain what happened. Michael was very upset that his sister had used his ID the way she did, in his email he confirms he told her he could use the ID for several still shots in her project, but he didn’t ever think she would use his identity in this way. He has informed us that if he has to he will fill a police report against her for using his identity.

His wife also spoke to us, needless to say she was very upset with what her sister-in-law had done. We aren’t going to post her full email conversation with us here, because she was very upset with Kelsie, so we had her write a statement concerning the incident.

Richard Stoops, the perpetual phony

About five years ago, we first busted Richard “Dick” Stoops for being a phony Korean War Ranger. He had fooled the Missouri National Guard with his tales of derring-do to the point that they let him back in the service after the Vietnam War, even though he was too old. The Missouri National Guard Hall of Fame were preparing to honor him, when we interceded with his records.
Two years ago, he benefitted from an “Honor Flight” to DC, wearing a Purple Heart patch on his jacket – he arrived in Korea after hostilities had ended, so he has no Purple Heart.
Anyway, he’s still at it, according to the Amarillo Globe News, he was at a Veterans’ Affairs event to honor former POWs;
Former VA leadership chose to hold the events on April 9 — Former POW Recognition Day — and POW/MIA Recognition Day in September.
Some of the men were held for months, others years. One man kept track of his captivity down to the day.
“If it wasn’t for them, we wouldn’t have our freedoms and our safety,” Kingham said. “It’s very humbling to hear their stories of what they’ve gone through for those freedoms.”

The attendees were David Billings, Uell Carter, Scott Downing Jr., Sherman Jones, Odelle McAvoy, Alfred Shoffit, Clifford Solomon, Richard Stoops, Charles Sturgeon and Richard Trask.

So, I guess he moved from Missouri to Texas and he’s started his little game all over again. I remember when we first busted him, his family told us that he was going to die if we went public with his lies. I guess they’re not worried about that anymore. His family knows he’s lying and they still help him to lie. The VA is honoring him, so it’s reasonable to assume that he’s getting POW benefits from the agency, even though Secretary Eric Shinseki told Senator Patty Murray that the VA had scrubbed their POW lists

Robin sends us a link to High Plains Daily which reports that someone let Dick Stoops on an Honor Flight to DC and greeted by his Senator, Jerry Moran. We got Stoops’ records three years ago when the Kansas National Guard was going to induct him into their Hall of Fame. We stopped that and the Kansas City Star did a story about our adventures. The family told the Star that Stoops was dying and in the hospital because of his exposure. Now this;

The opportunity for Stoops travel to the nation’s capital was made possible by volunteers and donors acting through Honor Flight – a nonprofit organization created solely to honor America’s veterans. During their trip to D.C., veterans have the opportunity to visit the memorials built in their honor.

Stoops had told everyone that he had been in the 187th Regimental Combat Team and had three combat parachute jumps during the war in Korea. It turns out that Stoops didn’t arrive in Korea until the war was over, and had never made a combat jump. He was assigned to a Service Company in the 187th. In fact there were only two combat jumps in Korea, both made by the 187th. Notice in the above picture that he’s wearing a Purple Heart patch – that’s a lie, he has no Purple Heart.

Dick Stoops’ most egregious act was when he went back in the National Guard after the Vietnam War and used his vastly inflated career to convince someone to let him back in based on his lies. Apparently, all of that stuff you see him wearing at the link is what he had convinced someone in the Guard that he earned – the reason they were putting him in their Hall of Fame. And since he’s rocking that Purple Heart patch, I’m guessing he’s back to his old tricks hoping everyone forgot his publicity a few years back.

They should have given that Honor Flight trip to someone who didn’t lie about their service.

Yeah, this is one confusing-ass DD214 – two years and eight months in the Marines without a promotion from E-1, no schools, no training, no awards beyond rifle qualification. I’m just guessing here, but it looks like he went AWOL during training and stayed away for two years and now he regrets it.

He was discharged in January 2001, so he kind of missed the whole Global War on Terror thing. He also missed a lot of IEDs and a lot of better men than him were really awarded Purple Hearts.

Scotty sends us his work on this Christopher James Bush, aka Chris Hoot who claims that he was wounded while waging war against terrorists;
From his DD214, it looks like he was an honorably discharged Sergeant of Marines, promoted just a few weeks before he left active duty. He had one sea deployment for a few months. But he also left active duty just as the war against terror was ramping up. I guess he chose to leave just as the country would need him, and then he makes up stories about what he did instead of staying and doing the job that he was trained to do. He has a couple of sniper courses listed in his training, it’s unfortunate he decided of his own free will to leave the Marines – his records make it look as though his expertise would have been needed on the battlefield. But then, he shit all over that service by lying.
