Finishing up a year long school, was told that being a reservist I have to sell my leave. Has anyone come across this before when reclassing? https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/finishing-up-a-year-long-school-was-told-that-being-a-reservist-i-have-to-sell-my-leave-has-anyone-come-across-this-before-when-reclassing

Fri, 28 Oct 2016 08:41:43 -0400 Finishing up a year long school, was told that being a reservist I have to sell my leave. Ive never heard of selling leave unless you are redeploying or something in that nature. That was probably one time when I heard something about selling leave. The school house S-1 / finance should take care of everything for you. You should see an LES noting Accrued leave about a month after your orders end. I thought that you were allowed said days for Authorized Absenses or Reskeds; must be something different the Army does. BAH, BAS, UCMJ, potential for illness or injury, etc... It is possible to use the 30 (+2.5 accrued while on Leave) days but very unlikely. It's easier and a much cleaner slate when you just sell the days back.

An example of when they will HAVE to allow you to use the Leave is if you have already Sold Back Leave. I'm pretty sure the cap is 45 days in your career. Sell it, take the money and enjoy. When I came back from Afghanistan, I had my orders extended in order to use the accrued leave so I still got paid while I traveled around to see friends and family. I would probably do the same thing if I ever got deployed again. It's better than selling back the leave, because selling it you only get basic pay....using it you get paid including allowances....
