Fellow SFC, Have you noticed that G1 has cut 4.5 years of BASD from the upcoming MSG Selection Board? What do you suppose the reason is?

I think it has to with the selection process when the forced all the earily retirements they didn't for see how short handed they were really going to be so to compensate they made duty assignments shorter to move personnel to more critical duty assignments than staying in one place for multiple rotations does that sound in any way plausible to my fellow SFC

I found it more interesting that the DOR for secondary is Mar 2014...2 years. It was 36 months prior and longer depending your promotion date.

They must have some data indicating the younger SFC are more qualified than the ones that have more time and experience. This is just speculation and I really have no clue.

I personally think it's to allow the new STEP process to work. Yes it's back to two years for secondary zone, however by the time they hit the train and educate it will more than likely be past 36 months before promotion.

It also expanded the secondary zone to two years. I suppose we will get two looks for secondary zone, but still be at the same TIG for primary zone.

Now that I think of the firm must haves for pme I wonder what the numbers for e7 who have slc and ssd4 complete might look like. Hrc most likely has a metric for that and it is probably pinged off of the upcoming qrb roster. I sure wish someone from the PAB would chime in!!!

While there will be many SFCs that will disagree with the Army's decision (let's not forget, G1 doesn't make the call, this was decision was blessed off on by the Chain of Command), something had to be done in order to balance promotions and the draw down. This was the best option they could agree on. I could run the statistics (and probably will when I get back to the office) but Army-wide, the SFCs that will not be looked at for MSG probably have already had at least 4 boards where they were not selected. Officers have a 2 time non-select rule, what's so bad about NCOs being told "hey you are retirement eligible and have been passed over for promotion at least 4 times. Maybe you need to be proud of what you accomplished and just call it a career. Thanks for your service, here is your retirement check." Is that really so bad? Look at how many people didn't even make it to 20yrs, or even to SFC. I know I never thought I would make it this far and I'm proud of what I have done. I will keep pushing to go further but if I get passed over 4 times for MSG, you can bet I'll be first in line to hand over my DA 4187 request for retirement. I just wish I could plug a USB into my head and pass down all my knowledge and wisdom to the next generation!

The Army promotion system has always been a numbers game. In reference to the BASD change, I believe the Army is seeking individuals with longevity which contradicts the intent to promote the best qualified. The key word is "Qualified". G1 is changing the qualifications to achieve the Army's new unwritten goal of retaining younger individuals while trying to maintain the integrity of the promotion system. However, this approach is faulty. Promoting SFC's with 11 to 12 years of Service are not ready MSG. This COA will only push out the more experienced/qualified SFC's which will hurt the Army down the road.

I did call HRC to inquire and was informed the changes to RCPs are coming and those changes, even thoug not published, were being incorporated into this MSG board.
