I use a free app on my phone called 'True Caller'. It works pretty good.

The system works for the most part. What most people miss are the exclusions to DNC. Best way is to use an answer machine and screen calls.

"Do Not Call List" is worthless. Most calls now are computer generated.
But my favorite is from the "Windows Support Center", calling about "my Windows machine". They get upset when i tell them i use a Chromebook (i really do) and don't have a Windows machine. The IRS scam is a good one too. I tell them you know my address, send me a letter...lol Letter never comes.

Tired of my phone ringing all day and being dead air.. Most from Washington DC. I block it, comes again last 4 digits different.. damn robo callers..

Maybe not as effective, if you own a cell phone is to add each telemarketer to your block caller list.

I think the list is pretty worthless myself. But, when they call me, I have a bad habit of turning on some pleasant music (usually something loud and angry), setting the phone down in front of the speaker, and walking away. I don't know how long they listen, but they're always gone when I come back.

I am on state and federal no-call lists and was still getting so many that I just turned the home phone's ringer off. I can see caller ID from my desk and if is not someone that I want to talk to I just don't answer. Cell phone I just set on vib and same deal. I almost never answer my phone.

It does work, but ONLY for LEGAL calls. Political calls are exempt. The scam calls do not care they are breaking the law.

When I answer the phone, if they are not there in about 5 seconds I hang up. If they don't have the time to wait on the line for me to answer, I don't have the time to wait for them either.

It's my feeling that the State & National Do Not Call lists do not work very well as we are bombarded with numerous 'unavailable' calls where no one leaves a message. AT&T allows a person to block 20 phone numbers for free which is of some help, but doesn't stop the 'unavailable' ones.

Thousands of companies sell your info making that part of your cost of doing business with them. Thousands more resort to robocalls despite them being illegal. Phone companies refuse to employ tech to block or identify the robocallers. Telemarketers love to ask you if you don't want to receive calls to be added to'their do not call list' after they have wasted your time. I encourage all working in those 'jobs' to seek out legal work as opposed to their current criminal activity. Not surprisingly this causes some ro get pissed off. Oh well.

Give the phone to a child, tell the child it is Santa Claus, and let it go. Otherwise try to make them hang up on you. I like to start easy on em, asking if mommy and daddy were siblings, then moving to do you do this job to get even with a sneaky uncle who used to touch you? Nothing is sacred. If they are Indian I ask them if they will accept payment in the form of cheeseburgers. The more offensive the better. If I can make them hang up I win. IF they don't hang up, I will continue to offend until they do. Best telemarketer call ever, I made her cry before hanging up on me. Telemarketers and ISIL, both evil, not sure which is worse.

DNC list is not effective and any Caller ID number can be faked. I even received a call one time showing my own name/number in the Caller ID. How's my own phone calling me?

So I built my own PBX and let it do Caller ID filtering. Got nearly 11,000 numbers loaded into it (mostly from the weekly FCC list of DNC list offenders) to block. Now, if my phone only rings once, the PBX stopped them with a message stating "this number has been disconnected or is no longer in service". Otherwise, the phone will continue to ring and I'll answer it.

Ran across this "fix" last week. It really works. If a telemarketer calls, it allows the phone to ring one time, and it sends them a message. All you have to do is download it, put in the phone numbers you want it on, and that's it. It doesn't work with my AT&T cellphones yet. AT&T is working on it.
