Getting out is an exciting time but can also be overwhelming. It doesn't seem like a big deal until you have to try and get something done without your typical support system. What are the first things someone should do on the VA's eBenefits site? What are the most helpful and important pages for someone just getting started? Any hidden benefits you've found that you can share?

Everyone's situation and needs will be different but the first thing you want to do is SET UP ACCOUNT so you can log in. Do this now so you know what's out there before you transition out. That way you're not scrambling to get access when you need something down the road.

For me the most helpful thing was the VA LOE (Letter of Eligibility) for a VA Home Loan. If you're getting out and thinking of getting a house, do this first. You'll need housing when the military isn't providing you BAH or housing. Even if you don't use the letter for a VA loan, have it on hand just in case. The home buying process is fraught with paperwork and this is one less thing you'll have to worry about.
